Anti-Piracy#
As with most of the games Konami has published after 1990, this game features a form of copy-protection. When booting the game, it performs a self-test, checking for the presence and integrity of a CHR bank with copyright tiles; part of the copyright-message screen contains the string "© KONAMI 1991", and the copy-protection routines check for that string. If the tests fail, the game switches to "pirate" mode.
In a normal game, Penta gains weight after he eats food (voluntarily or otherwise.) If his weight is too high when he reaches the telephone at the end of the stage, then he has to start the stage again. In "pirate" mode, a single piece of food makes him grow obese - which makes clearing the stage under the weight limit much harder.
Unused Text#
The game script makes a reference to a race between Penta and Genji, the main antagonist. While there are stages where you fly a plane, you never race against anything other than the stage timer. This text is located at address 0061FA in the ROM.

Unused Graphics#

This needs some investigation. |
Penko has early graphics for walking and rejecting Penta, presumably meant for the title screen in early development.
Penta has graphics for what could be burping(?), looking down, an early kick(?), a downwards facing hurt sprite, looking at the camera (found near the HUD, possibly for a life system), and flailing his arms around (possibly for getting hurt in the final boss.)
Graphics for a tiny plane (presumably Penta's,) and a wing(?) can be found near the map graphics.
The only thing in the ROM that's related to Ginji that's unused is this map sprite, found next to Penta's.
An early TM for the logo.
