Unused Skins

Unused Player Skins#

Four packages containing early skins for characters in the game can be found in the game's texture folder. Two of the skins have old skins for the Necris, while the other package has early skins for the Blood Reavers. The Necris packages are called GothFem and GothSkin, while the Blood Reaver packages are called DacomaF and DacomaSkins.

These packages exist in the Version 222 prototype, but the final skins are used. This suggests that these skins were made quite early in development.

Female Necris#

The early female Necris skin is very different from the one seen normally. This skin gives the Necris a very skimpy top, a poorly-drawn bikini bottom, and lacks the straps on her legs. Some bits of the old skin, such as the bikini bottom, can still be seen in the final design.

In the early skins, the shoulder pads and arms are separate from the face skin. A checkerboard pattern exists where the arms should be on each face texture in the old female Necris texture package. This suggests that the Female Commando's (the base model used by the Necris skins) UV maps were different earlier in production.

Additionally, the early Necris skin has four face skins that do not appear in the final game. These skins all have pupils, more visible eyes, and spots. The hair appears to be similar to face skins used in the final game.

Male Necris#

The Male Necris also has a different design. He appears to be wearing a skintight shirt that exposes his abs and have any strips on his legs and arms. The pants texture used has far fewer details than the final skin used by the male Necris. His team colors are darker than the ones the final male Necris has. The early male Necris skin package has only one face, which does not appear among the final faces.

Female Blood Reaver#

The female Blood Reaver skin is slightly different in the early skin textures. Instead of having a grey and white checkered texture, the early skin has a dark brown and black checkered texture that looks similar to the red skin. The team skins in the old female Blood Reavers package are much darker than the ones in the final game.

The only face included in the package is a darker version of the final's Kyla face.

The female Blood Reaver has the same arm and shoulder pad texture issue that the female Necris has.

Male Blood Reaver#

The male Blood Reaver's basic skin is similar to the final's, but there are some noticeable differences. His green shirt is much darker than the one the final skin has and his pants, including the knee pads, have much less detail. However, the team-colored skins are different. The early team skins do not have the legs colored for the team the player is on and the backpack's colors are darker than the ones in the final game.

The package containing the early male Blood Reaver has only one face skin; Boris. It is exactly like the Boris face texture used.
