The 2015 Windows release of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is a full-on remaster, this time running on a different engine altogether.

Test Map#

The game has a simple engine test map known as "kaiser_test.map" that can be loaded with the map editor or the debug console. It contains a single unarmed Campaigner Soldier which spawns many items when killed, and a climbable pillar near the player's starting point.

By using the command "map levels/test/kaiser_test.map" in the console, the map can be loaded and played.

The name refers to Samuel "Kaiser" Villarreal, the lead engine programmer on Night Dive's KEX framework.

While the Gallery feature from the original N64 and Windows versions is not unlockable in this version (time constraints prohibited it from being finished), what was completed can be accessed with the console command "map levels/level50.map".

Using the strafe keys rotates the current enemy, while the next/previous weapon keys cycle through available enemies.

The March 1st 2025 "Next Gen" update completed the Gallery feature and made it available via the cheat menu, as in the N64 version. Character names are printed at the top of the screen, the fire and jump keys cycle back and forth through animations. In addition, as an enhancement over the N64 original, the boss characters and Turok himself are viewable.

Unused Developer Intro#

A short, fully-animated developer intro for Sculptured Software Inc., who worked on the original game. This can be found by using the console command "map levels/level51.map" and looking behind where you spawn.
