Unseen Details#
The diorama for episode 1 features a completely clean and unboarded drugstore interior.
General Notes#
- In some promotional screenshots, Glenn's baseball cap has the New York Yankees logo on it. However, in the game it does not.
Unused Icons#
This episode contains a couple of icons that go unused:
- The "Teapot" and "Hammer" (not the same hammer as the one you bash Sandra with) icons aren't used at any point.
- The running icon was eventually used in Episode 2: Starved For Help.
- The rag concept was later re-used in Episode 3: Long Road Ahead.
Unused Models & Textures#
Early versions of stuff that would get (re)used in the future, or just general unused models and textures.
The St. Johns#
Andy and Danny both use textures which closely resemble their concept art, with their clothes seeing some coloration tweaks for the final release of Episode 2: Starved For Help. Their face textures were made darker altogether, featuring darker skin tone as well as darker hair. It is interesting to note that both Andy and Danny can be seen using these textures in the "Next Time On The Walking Dead" segment at the end of the episode.

Ben Paul#
Like the St. Johns, Ben's textures also saw a slight modification when he was finally seen in Episode 2. His early textures had darker pants and shoes, but a lighter skin tone and hair color. He also uses these textures in the "Next Time On" segment showcasing Episode 2.

Mark#
Mark probably had one of the more noticeable changes. In the "Next Time On" segment teasing Episode 2, Mark is seen with just a plain t-shirt. In the final release, some of his skin texture has been pasted over his shirt texture, as he now wears a jacket, which is a completely new mesh that didn't exist yet at the time of Episode 1's release. His glasses were also given more detail. His early face texture had a lighter skin tone, a lighter hair color, and a more noticeable beard, which was toned down in the final release.

Christa#
Oddly enough, even Christa, who wouldn't appear until Episode 3: Long Road Ahead, already has textures present in Episode 1. This is likely due to her already being present on the diorama for Episode 4: Around Every Corner. The overall textures of her clothes were simply made darker, but her face texture saw some more noticeable changes. Her skin tone was made lighter, her eyebrows were completely redone, she was given some blue tones around her eyes, and textures on her cheeks, lips, nose, and ears were redrawn. The old texture also lacks the small loose strands of hair on her forehead.

Reused Models and Textures#
Shawn's friend Andre, otherwise known as Officer Mitchell, is the only character in the episode whose appearance isn't guaranteed. It's likely for this reason that it was decided to reuse pre-existing assets to create him, rather than creating fully unique ones. Mitchell's face texture is derived from Doug's, although made darker and given a buzz cut.

Andre |

Mitchell's body texture, on the other hand, has been taken from unnamed cop from the start of the episode. For some reason, all of the textures are basically identical, with the exception of the torso and arms, which were completely redrawn. The cop's uniform is drawn a lot cruder and more two-dimensional, while Mitchell's details pop out a lot more.

Shawn |
Well, Atlanta's gone to shit. |

Shawn |
Is this your house? |

No. I live here in Atlanta but my family's all from Macon. |
Leftover when the game took place in Atlanta. |

|
Lee |
Your dad, the horse doctor, won't mind working on a person? |

Lee |
The folks who own this house. Found her in the backyard, surviving on her own. |
Unsure where this fits in the conversation with the sentence fragment. |

Larry |
It does when there are lives on the line. |

Larry |
Step the fuck back. |

Lee |

Kenny |

Lee |
Guys. We are the men here. We need to keep our goddamn heads and keep the goddamn peace. |

Lee |
Guys, shut this down. |

Lee |
Kenny, you got your family, Larry, you got yours. And neither of them need to see you get the shit kicked out of yourself, or worse, in order to keep us all safe. |

Kenny |
You both would do the same. |

Lee |
Probably. Kenny, take care of your boy. Larry, go sit down. |

Larry |
Or else what? |

Kenny |
Ah, screw you. |

Just keep it down! |

Lee |
They're looking for batteries. |
|
Lee |
Things are going to hell right in front of us and those two are worried about the news. |
|
Lee |
She must be a reporter or some sort of reporter. And who knows what his deal is... |
|
Lee |
Finding what you're looking for? |
|
Glenn |
Not quite. We need a couple of D batteries for this radio. Want to help us out? |
|
Lee |
Sure, I'll look around. |
|
Lee |
Maybe we should focus on keeping this place safe. |
|
Lee |
We've got bigger problems. |
|
Carley |
Great, thanks. |
|
Carley |
Agreed. |
|
Lee |
Fine, just try to keep it down, we don't need to attract attention. |
|
Carley |
We need to know how big this thing is. Any nearby stations, hell, the emergency broadcast system would be enough. |
|
Carley |
We don't know how big our problems are. That's what I'm trying to find out. Every second we don't know is a second we could be missing some information that will save our lives. |
|
Carley |
Whatever, jerk. |
|
Lee |
Any luck? |
|
Glenn |
None yet. |
|
Carley |
Found one. Need one more. |
|
Lee |
Looks like they found some batteries. |
|
Carley |
Maybe the batteries are dead. I don't know. I'm usually pretty good with this stuff. |
|
Lee |
Get that radio to work yet? |
|
Lee |
How about you? |

Carley |

Well I didn't order room service. |

We'll try to find you another one. |
In another revision of this chapter, when Clementine's walkie-talkie breaks after she's grabbed by a walker and falls, you could've had a brief conversation about it afterwards instead of later at the Motor Inn. She does not mention using it to talk to her parents. Judging from the tone it feels like less of a serious loss.

At one point, Lee could ask Glenn for something sharp, to which he references the axe Lee finds at the Motor Inn, saying it's still there after they left. This suggests that you would originally be able to leave the Motor Inn before interacting with Irene.

||
Glenn |
So let's go back. Now. It's right in plain sight. |
||
Lee |
Ok. Fine, yeah, let's go. |
||
Glenn |
Great, I hope she's still ok. |
||
Glenn |
We could still save that girl; let's go! |
||
Glenn |
Come on, we can do this! |
||
Lee |
Hey guys; I know this sounds crazy, but Glenn and I are headed out for a minute. We need an axe if we're going to help Larry. |
||
Lee |
We'll be careful. Be right back. |
||
Lee |
That's crazy; we can find something else. |
Alternate choice. |
|
Glenn |
OR we could go pick up exactly what we need and help someone while we're at it. |
||
Lee |
I'll think about it. |
||
Lee |
There's an axe back at the inn? |
Another choice. |
|
Glenn |
Yeah! Let's go get it! |
||
Lee |
Thanks for, you know, going back there with me. |
||
Glenn |
Yeah, whatever. |
||
Lee |
Glenn, maybe her friends came for her; you don't know. |
Suggests that you (can) leave Irene behind. |
|
Glenn |
Yeah, you're right. We don't and we never will. |
It might've been the case that Carley was going to ask Lee where he's from, even though she knew who he was immediately, perhaps as a way to test him before coming clean since she later shows concern for the protection of his privacy within the group.

Lee |
So you're saying the military may be trying or have already tried? |

Unfortunately, yeah. |

Well, I was pissed Glenn threw open that door but, I'm glad you walked through it. You're a strong guy who seems like he can keep his head. |

It was a crazy situation and you froze. Before, with that thing coming out of the bathroom, I've seen trained killers do the same. |

Way to take care of things, before -- with the fight and those guys dicking around with that radio. |

Lee |
It seems not. |

Lilly |
But stopping that fight was damn impressive. I couldn't have done it. |

Lee |
It didn't, but you're right. And Clementine still got grabbed by that thing in the bathroom. |
||
Lilly |
We just have to keep our eyes out better -- that radio could've gotten us all killed. |
Somehow the radio is to blame for the attack. |
|
Lilly |
I know my dad was... out of line, before but-- |
||
Lee |
Hey, whatever, forget about it. |

Lilly |
That fight with my dad and your guy was a shit-show. |

Lilly |
But you made sure that those guys didn't do something dumb with that radio. |

Lee |
Sure, but I should've been paying attention to the girl. |

Lee |
What makes you say that? |

This whole place just went to hell. That little girl was in trouble. |
