The Genesis port of The Lawnmower Man was meant to release alongside the SNES original, but ended up being delayed. This delay was reportedly due to the original publisher, Tengen, wishing to revamp the platforming stages. Despite this, the port is mostly the same as the SNES version, but with some cuts, most notably the SNES version had the fight against Jobe earlier in the game, followed by a top-down driving stage and a battle against an original character, "The Doomplayer".

Level Select#
Pause gameplay in any platforming level and press Up, Right, A, B, A, Down, Left, A, Down ("yoU aRe A BAD LAD"). Unpause and re-pause the game, then press C. This also activates a level skip feature, pause the game and press B to go to the next level.

Despite not being released in the region, code exists to remove the trademark symbol from the title screen if the system region is set to Japan.2
