The Adventures of Rad Gravity is an obscure game that has become popular in recent years due to videos mocking its title screen music. The game itself is designed to reward you for trying to bug the game, except that if you prove a cheater in the door maze on the last stage by trying to go out of bounds, you'll get a freeze. Oh, and it features a neat comic in the manual with context as to why you always have an item you can't use with you.

Unused Graphics#

This star is after the Energy Disk, and before the Brackets used show which item is currently selected in the item menu, in the game's CHR.

Unused Items#

By modifying $C5 at the item menu, you can modify the selected item index; this way, you can finally equip the green item that the manual calls the "Translator", claiming that it "Gives you the ability to comprehend alien text messages." You can modify the equipped item directly in $C6; there are more item options this way, but the item's color palette doesn't get updated.

Translator#

To do:
Find out if the game checks whether you have the Translator at any point.

To do:
An existing sword, or a different one, if the two ones in the game have any gameplay difference.

In the item menu, modify address $C5 with the value $03, then press Start to equip it. Using this item will have the effect of a sword.

You normally start with this "item", and can't interact with it. The game's password system considers this to be an item you can either have or not, and as such, you can start a new game without the Translator by using the password T$M0Z C7N3! 6PFL$ DTQ3K.

Star#

To do:
Check too if this is an existing sword, if any of them are even different.

To do:
Check if it has a palette that corresponds to it.

In gameplay, edit address $C6 with the value $8C to equip it. This item icon is unused and appears after the Energy Disk but before the Brackets item graphics in the game's graphics. It will have the effect of a sword.

Brackets#

Go to the item menu and edit address $C5 with the value $12. Then, press Start, go to the item menu again, and edit address $C5 again, now with the value $14. Finally, press Start to equip it. Alternatively, you can modify address $C6 with the value $8D during gameplay.

This is an item that gives you an energy container that corresponds to the zone you are in, if you haven't obtained it before. For example, the first room checks address $08's bit 1. If it's clear, using this item will set its bit to 1 and 2, and add 1 to address $09, which represents the energy containers you have. If it's set, this item will do nothing.

Communicator#

Normally, you can't equip this item, but you can use it as a normal item by editing address $C6 with the value $86. Using it will get you out of the planet like expected, only quicker, with a fadeout.

Cloner#

You can equip this by editing address $C6 with the value $80, only if address $05's bits 1 and 2 are clear (the pistols must not be acquired). Using it will spawn a copy of you in place; they all can move and jump like you, and each has separate HP, although they only die if they deplete their health (as indicated by an explosion sound) and you get hit afterward. Other weapons can be equipped while the clones are in effect, and all of them can be in use if there are not many on screen; otherwise, the weapon will not spawn, and only the player will have their sword spawn. Energy Disks will only appear on the player, even if grabbed by a clone; however, the clone will still be able to pick up the Energy Disk of the player.

If a clone dies and you then enter another room, you may hear ominous music. A second after the music starts, the game may crash. You can avoid this by pressing Start and waiting a few seconds before unpausing; the ominous music will continue, and it may or may not eventually crash the game.

Item Giving Equipment#

By modifying $C6 mid-game to the following values, you'll equip an item. Using it will give you the following:

$8E = Gives you the Translator if you don't have it (bit 4 at $05).

$8F = Gives you the planet's item if you don't have it (refer to the table below).

$90 = Gives you the armor that corresponds to the zone you are in (refer to the table below).

$91 = Gives you the same energy container as the Brackets item, and works as it's described, too.

Odd Effect Equipment#

To do:
Is $A0's sound effect used in the game normally?

$92 = Crashes the game

$93 = This makes two bullets appear in front of you, moving toward you. Some hit sounds will randomly play; you'll get multiple hits, even after dying.

$98 = Using this in the middle room of the intro stage will give you two energy bars each time you enter and use it. It will also mess up the music, and sometimes teleport you or crash the game.

$A0 = This teleports you, sometimes to another room; it will also play an odd sound effect, mess with enemies, and may throw you to the title screen. It may also crash the game.

Planet Spawn Shortcuts#

To do:
Needs research to know how the Teleport Locations work

Spawn next to Volcania's energy container#

On the ship, highlight Volcania, and edit both addresses $02 and $04 with the value $55, and pick the lowest selectable Teleport Location. You'll appear in Volcania, next to the energy container.

Ending Clutscene#

On the ship, highlight Volcania and just edit address $04 with the value $55. Then, pick the lower selectable Teleport Location. The ending animation of the ship will play with the ship music briefly before stopping, and the game will remain still after the ship takes the warp.

Sauria and Odar's shortcut spawn points#

On the ship, highlight Volcania and edit addresses $02 and $04 with the value $44. Then, pick the one in the lower-left corner to spawn above the flying enemies in Odar, pick the one to the right of that to spawn at the dinosaur's tail in Sauria, or select the Teleport Location on the planet to spawn at Sauria's gate maze room.

Turvia's shortcut spawn point#

On the ship, highlight Volcania and edit addresses $02 and $04 with the value $77. Then, pick the only Teleport Location available to appear outside the house.
