TheZone

A game much like the After Dark game "Lunatic Fringe," or the Ambrosia Software game Maelstrom, in which the player flies a ship through open space and blows up asteroids and enemies therein. Powerups can heal, improve the main weapon, or provide consumable random teleports and other handy things.

StartUp Errors#

The developer evidently wanted to be sure to cover all the bases as far as launching the game was concerned! Nearly all of the startup error messages could theoretically be displayed, but featured here are the ones which have likely never come up, or at least seem very peculiar. The applications "TheZone" and "TheZone FPU" both contain all 14 of the messages, in their respective resource forks, even though in at least one case (string 5) they should not.

Bloody hell, this machine must be a test station at Apple® Computer, Inc.!

Gestalt not available. Unknown system version. Is this machine really *so* old?
Give me something better, please...

string 5

A 680x0 machine with a *real* FPU is required to use this version. Something like a Quadra 700, for instance.
Please, use the application called "TheZone".

string 6

A 13" (640x480) or bigger monitor is required in order to play.
Sorry: you wouldn't see your info bar, and you really can't play without it!

Cannot access the current monitor gamma table.
If you have another screen available, please launch the game from there.
