Spider-Man Voice Lines

This is a sub-page of Spider-Man 2 (Windows, Mac OS X)/Unused Sounds & Voice lines.

The majority of Spider-Man's lines weren't used. Some of them are from the PS2 game, but there are also unique Tobey Maguire lines, recorded specifically for the Windows version.

Rhino's Rampage#

Sp_Id_E_docrhino	"Since when did Doc Ock and Rhino carpool?"	An unused line of Spidey commenting on Ock and Rhino. Spidey still sees Ock taking Rhino in the final game and says a line about it, but not his one.
Sp_Gn_B_056	"Mind if I lend a hand? Comes with free webbing..."	Technically, the line is used on the first level, when Spidey sees shielded guards being surrounded by three inmates. However, it cuts on the "comes with free webbing" part. It was fine in the demo, but in the final game a cop line "Nice move, man" interrupts it. It's unclear if it was done deliberately or by a mistake, but since you can't hear the full line in the game, it counts as unused.
SM_06	"I can't beat Rhino, fighting him face to face - he'll run me over like a freight train."	Rhino says absolutely the same thing in a used line, no surprise this one wasn't used. The second file is absolutely the same, but 0.4 seconds longer... It's unclear why it is how it is.
SMVO026A
SM_08	"You know, you're kinda cute, when you're angry..."	The line was used in the demo in the cutscene after the fight. Since the cutscene was remade, the line was left unused. Also absolutely the same thing happened with this line - it's in two different files, but the first version was cut to be 0.6 seconds shorter... You can even hear how in the end it cuts off a bit.
SMVO032A	"You know, you're kinda cute, when you're angry..."
SMVO013A	"This looks promising. Maybe I better lend a hand..."	These lines were used, but not these files. For some reason they were duplicated. Maybe all lines originally had such meaningless temporary names and then they were renamed to better structure them. It also could explain why there's so many gaps. But why weren't the originals deleted in this case? They're all from the first mission. These used versions of these lines could be a bit shorter, by the way, just like these two couples of lines above.

SMVO022A	"Rhino? Don't you know when to give up, you big lug?"

Sp_Gn_B_028	"Your fighting is anything like your tough talk - I'm not exactly worried."
Sp_Gn_B_030	"Great, more thugs, I was starting to get restless!"
Sp_Gn_B_031	"You can't expect me to take it easier on you just because you're dumb. I'll never get any work!"
SMVO017A	"Wonder why that van's going in such a hurry... Better polish these jokers off and check it out."	This line, however, wasn't used at all and it's clearly from this level, Spidey wouldn't make such comment about a van with aunt May.
SMVO030A	"Throwing stuff at Rhino only seems to hack him off! Gotta try something else!"	What if originally Spidey could use some street objects to throw? It doesn't sound that weird, considering the fact that you could throw gold bricks in the bank vault Ock battle. But yeah, since it wasn't in the game - the line wasn't needed as well.
Sp_Gn_B_065	"Better hurry or I'll be late for that bank appointment with aunt May..."	Sounds like it could be used in that cutscene showing the glowing beam to the next mission. Would be nice to have this line in the game...

Bank#

Sp_Bk_E_YourWelcome	"You're welcome."	A very weird line... It sounds like it was made out of different syllables from other lines. Maybe they needed this line, but Tobey was already out of reach and too expensive to call in again to record a single line. Thankfully it wasn't used.
Sp_Bk_I_bossfight1	"If I can web up his tentacles, I might get a chance to hit him."	These lines prove, that initially Ock's tentacles could be webbed. Maybe you would need to web them, when they are on the floor, but for some reason the devs abandoned the idea and the tentacles just get stuck on their own. There are some unused animations for Ock's tentacles being webbed, by the way.

Sp_Bk_I_checking	"Hi there. You guys up for free checking?"	Some lines, that could be used at different points of the level.

Sp_Bk_I_open	"Maybe they'll open up for me. I'll try asking politely..."

Sp_Bk_I_vaulttaunt2	"Ouch... Don't make me call you a crazy cephalopod, Ock. I've got standards."
Sp_Bk_I_vaulttaunt3	"Now is that any way to talk to a friend? We use the same bank, we're practically family!"
Sp_Bk_I_vaulttaunt4	"Come on, Ock. Just tell me what you're really after and we'll call it even. If you put all this gold back and turn yourself in - I'll throw in a free toaster oven."

Puma Pounces#

Pe_Rs_I_bankrobbed	"Hope aunt May is alright... She should probably getting used to being abducted by maniacs... Speaking of women, who are mad at me: better not be late for MJ."	Judging by the name, the line would play on the Puma Pounces level and it would be said by Peter, not Spider-Man. The line would make sense to be in the game after the bank level, but it doesn't fit good to be before the Peter/MJ scene from this level.
Pe_Rs_I_findcop	"Just get out of there and don't go home! Look for a cop!"	These lines were probably meant for their last conversation before MJ was kidnapped by Doc Ock.
Pe_Rs_I_getout	"Mary Jane, get out of there, now!"
Pe_Rs_I_gonow	"Mary Jane, listen to me, you're in trouble!"
Sp_Rs_I_geronimo	"Alright, get in there, web up the knucklehead, and let the cops sort it out. With a little luck, I'll make it to Mary Jane before she even notices I'm late."	Judging by the subtitles.int file, that would be the first line Spidey said in the garage. The subtitle is also a bit different, there was "let's" before "get in there".
Sp_Rs_I_hurry	"What's your hurry, puss-puss?"	Cute line, that wasn't used.
Sp_Rs_I_leterw	""W" is one heavy letter..."	This line could obviously be used if you fail the falling hotel W-letter QTE.
Sp_Gn_B_078	""E" is one heavy letter!"	Well, what? Looks like the name of that hotel could be different...
Sp_Rs_I_trap	"Uh... trap?"	Most likely a line from the garage cutscene.
Sp_Rs_I_whiskers	"Alright, whiskers. Lay some exposition on me and don't make me use that itchy webbing. Who sicced you on me?"	Definitely a lines from some cutscene, maybe even the last one, when Puma was already webbed-up.
Sp_Rs_I_youasked	"If those webs are too tight - tough."
Sp_Gn_B_072	"Puma... I should have known... Actually I had it narrowed down to you and... five other cat-like assassins..."	Could be used in the garage instead of that "stolen car business" line.

Oscorp#

Sp_Gn_B_044	"Shenanigans at Oscorp, huh? Maybe I should swing by there just for old time sake..."	It sounds like an unused line from the intro cutscene.
Sp_OS_B_animalcrackers	"Don't tell me, wait. The sight of an animal cracker's box."	Hard to say where the line could be used...
Sp_Os_B_arcs1	"Those are hands down the third most festive lasers I've ever seen..."	Either Spidey would say this about the security lasers, or it was meant as a comment about some Oscorp experiment. There's a lot of unused lines for this purpose.
Sp_Os_B_experiment3	"Yeah, that looks safe..."	Yeah, these ones.
Sp_Os_B_experiment4	"Somewhere a mad scientist is dreaming about this. He's about to wake up screaming!"
Sp_Os_B_experiment5	"Wonder what kind of batteries this one takes..."
Sp_Os_B_coolant	"Hm... Coolant tanks... They say "fight fire with fire", but I think that's only when coolant tanks aren't available..."	Most likely a cut line from the freezing room cutscene.
Sp_Os_B_rhinocool	"I bet if I web these coolant tanks..."	And this sounds more like a hint, not a cutscene line.
Sp_Os_B_goldilocks	"Maybe not, goldilocks, but it sure is fun trying."	Hm... The only goldilocks in the game is Puma and the line is named just like other Oscorp lines... Either a naming mistake, or...
Sp_Os_B_headline	"Ah, Jonah... Never met a half-truth too sensational to print."	There are some Daily Bugle billboards and papers around the city here and there, but in Oscorp? Weird. Looks like Spidey would comment on some Daily Bugle headline, judging by the name of the file. Jonah was never mentioned in the game.
Sp_Os_B_rhinoglow	"Those generators seem to affect the circuitry in his suit. Hm... I wonder..."	These lines could play on Rhino ramming the generators during the Oscorp battle, but only the "Is it just me or is he getting more powerful?" line was used.
Sp_Os_B_rhinoglow4	"Ow! Looks like Rhino's got a whole new bag of superhero tricks to show off."
Sp_Os_B_taunt	"Haven't I met my thug quotient for the week yet?"	An unused taunt. Could easily be used in the beginning of the level in that optional lobby mission where thugs arrived using elevators.
Sp_Os_B_tochair1	"Come on, who throws chairs nowadays, really?"

Sp_Os_B_windchill	"Don't worry, Rhino. It's not the temperature you gotta worry about. It's the windchill!"	Some unused combat taunt for the freezing room battle.
Sp_Ge_B_avoidcamera1	"Better stay clear of those cameras!"	Technically, the line is used on Oscorp level, but in unused cutscene. That cutscene had two versions for different places and it would make certain that player will notice the cameras. However, even though the level still used cameras, they had no cutscene or any other special introduction used.

Twisted City#

Sp_Fl_E_affordable	"Wow! I can almost afford to live in this neighbourhood now..."	Either this could play randomly during one of the Twisted City levels or it was meant for the first cutscene.
Sp_FL_E_asteroids	"What the... asteroids? These aren't in my job description!"	Most likely could play on the second Twisted City level, there was a lot of asteroids...
Sp_Fl_E_botretort1	"It's Spider-Man! Spider-Man!"	Judging by the name, it was a response to one of the Mysterio bot lines. Maybe to the "squash the bug" one.
Sp_Fl_E_botsfromair	"What gives? They're just appearing out of thin air!"	Spidey could comment on Mysterio bots, would be nice to have the line used in the game...
Sp_Fl_E_combattaunt3	"You have some anger issues to work through."	It's unclear if these taunts were meant for bots or Mysterio himself, but they aren't used.
Sp_Fl_E_combattaunt4	"Hey! Watch where you're pointing that thing!"
Sp_Fl_E_dumpster	"Hey, another talking dumpster! Good having an excuse to not holding back..."	Sounds like another line about Mysterio bots.
Sp_Fl_E_english	"Giant stupid robots that speak English. How thoughtful of the manufacturer!"	Um... The bots were never giant... Or were they? Were there giant robots besides the normal ones? At lest they were already small in the demo... Either the line was made before the bots were actually developed, or at some point they really were bigger.
Sp_Fl_E_generator2	"Some kind of generator!"	A couple of unused lines about generators. The second one is definitely from the Twisted City 2 level.
Sp_Fl_E_generator3	"Maybe if I can find the generators powering these turrets, I can shut them down."
Sp_Fl_E_homing	"Looks like those little turrets are vulnerable to web balls, but their homing missiles are bad news!"	It's definitely a comment about the Mysterio turret from the final battle. No way it was for the TC2 generators...
Sp_Fl_E_largeturretwek1_	"Looks like I can damage that big one when it's blasting..."	Hm... Either for TC2 turrets or the final Mysterio turret... Most likely the latter.
Sp_Fl_E_moverock	"Better move these rocks!"	It's unclear why the line could be needed... Rocks are definitely asteroids, but there was no point in moving them, only using as a weapon or red herring...
Sp_Fl_E_muchregret	"Oh, I regret so many things... And it's not even lunchtime yet..."	No idea why the line could be needed, but Spidey already had a line about lunchtime in Puma's hideout, so it would be weird if this one was used too.
Sp_Fl_E_nomachinery	"Give it up, party boy. This is why you'll always be a second stringer! Without your machinery my spider-sense is back!"	The line could be used on one of the TC levels. Spidey already had some lines about his spider-sense coming back, maybe this one wasn't needed after all...
Sp_Fl_E_nothappening	"This isn't happening..."	Could be used in the TC intro cutscene.
Sp_Fl_E_paradise	"Now I get to the bottom of this loony's paradise!"	Could easily be used after a destruction of some generators.
Sp_Fl_E_powerupturret	"Oh-oh... Looks like that thing's powering up. Not good."	Most likely a comment about the final battle turret.
Sp_Fl_E_rockcollection	"Later, tough guy. Gotta run. But it was great playing with your rock collection. Really!"	Sounds like it was meant for the final Mysterio cutscene.
Sp_Fl_E_roof	"Woo-hoo... It's a long way down... Better watch my step..."	Spidey could say this on some roof. Not like he had any problems with this in the game... The line really doesn't make sense.
Sp_Fl_E_rustbucket	"Playtime's over, rust bucket. Say cheese!"	Sounds like another bot taunt, but what about the "say cheese" part? Could Spidey make photos in the game? Or was it planned at all? There's also another line that might add up to it...
Sp_Fl_E_seesexit	"Note to self: this looks weird..."	Subway level had a couple of more "note to self" lines. It's a good thing they weren't used, it sounds not really original. Judging by the name of this line, it's a comment about one of the exit level portals.
Sp_Fl_E_skylight	"Jameson sure not gonna like that new skylight. Or that new... whatchamacallit?"	Oh, yeah, there's also this cut mention of Jameson...
Sp_Fl_E_turretshield	"What gives? A shield? Where do I get me one of those..."	No turrets had shields in the game. There's one screenshot in the official strategy guide that shows a similar mist effect near TC2 turrets, that was used on TC1 level after the generator force field appears. Maybe initially TC2 turrets could have force fields of their own. Or it's about the final Mysterio turret... Who knows... We have proof, that the turret was changed during the development at least once and it even had some different ammo. Why couldn't it have a shield at some point? The "Sp_Fl_E_largeturretwek1_" line might be another indication of it. This shield could disable when turret started shooting...
Sp_Fl_E_webballs	"What's a matter, don't like my web balls?"	Most likely another Mysterio bot combat taunt.
Sp_Fl_E_taunt1	"Heads up, chrome dome!"	A few unused combat taunts for Mysterio boss fight.
Sp_Fl_E_taunt2	"Right back at ya, Houdini."
Sp_Fl_E_taunt3	"Where are you moping off to fishbowl? Give me your best!"
Sp_Fl_E_taunt4	"What's up, spooky? Was it something I said?"
Sp_Fl_E_taunt5	"No offense, smiley, but I see you as more of a warm-up to something actually challenging."
Sp_Gn_B_046	"My spider sense isn't... working. I feel sick, but... this can't be real!"	Most likely was meant for Mysterio levels, but maybe not. If so, then those generators not only disabled spider sense, but also made Spidey feel really bad.
Sp_Gn_B_047	"Okay, it's efficiently real and hurt a lot."
Sp_Gn_B_048	"Wow, it helped my headache a little. Wonder if there a couple of more of those lying around."

Subway#

Sp_Tr_B_freight	"At Oscorp Doc said something about his last shipment arriving by freight. Unless I miss my guess..."	Most likely the line could be said in the intro cutscene of the level. It doesn't make sense to be in the final game, because subway level follows the Twisted City one, where Mysterio said that Spidey should catch the train. This line on the other hand sounds like there was no such conversation and Spidey just remembered what Ock said at Oscorp.
Sp_Tr_E_airmail	"Sure wish Doc could use airmail. Uh... actually maybe not."	A couple of unused lines for an unknown purpose.
Sp_Tr_E_carflips2	"I'm not a fan of public transportation either, but this is no way to make a point..."	A couple of unused lines for an unknown purpose.
Sp_Tr_E_docwinning2	"Note to self: remember to duck..."	These lines could be used during the train fight. Also even more "note-to-selfs"...
Sp_Tr_E_offtrain	"Note to self: stop telling the bad guys how my powers work."
Sp_Tr_E_ducttape	"Oh-oh... Forgot to bring extra duct tape..."
Sp_Tr_E_front	"Gotta get to the front car, fast!"
Sp_Tr_E_hangon	"If I can just hang on, I can see where he's going."
Sp_Tr_E_shoot1	"Just aim and fire, while they're in the air."
Sp_Tr_E_shoot2	"Gotta use my webs to knock these things out of the air."
Sp_Tr_E_maryjane	"MJ?"	The line could be used in the cut intro cutscene, where MJ was kidnapped by Ock.

Warehouse#

Sp_Wf_E_nolikespotlight	"I don't like the look of these spotlights..."	The line is used by the docks map, but it has "_" in the end of its name, that's why it never plays in the game. It's unclear if it even was placed anywhere in the map or was just loaded in it.
Sp_Ge_B_avoidlight2	"Watch that spotlight! Don't wanna let them know I'm here."	Another few unused lines about those spotlights.
Sp_Ge_B_skiplight1	"Gotta time my run through the spotlights!"	Another few unused lines about those spotlights.
Sp_Wf_E_killfuel	"Maybe if I take out those fuel containers it'll slow him down."	An unused hint for the final Ock battle.
Sp_Wf_E_stopdoc	"Gotta stop him before he makes it into that warehouse."	Could be used in the first cutscene after the train crash.
Sp_Wf_I_avoidwater2	"Better steer clear of the water."	An unused hint for the tunnel part of the docks level.
Sp_Wf_I_firmhand	"Quite the firm handshake you have there..."	Most likely was meant to be said by Spidey after he was grabbed by Ock. It was never a case in the game.
SMVO156A	"Are you idiots insane? Ock's experiment is coming apart under our feet!"	Most likely the line was meant for that super thug ambush.
SMVO158A	"This place is collapsing! Gotta get a move on!"	And these ones could be fine as some random comments on that level.
SMVO155	"Ock's experiments sure aren't architecture friendly!"
Sp_Gn_B_002	"It wasn't me! It was Octavius! He saved both of us! In the end, I guess, he understood what's important..."	Weird, it sounds like Peter said it to MJ after the final Ock battle. But she was there, she clearly saw everything... It wouldn't even make sense if the original MJ escape conclusion was used.

Misc.#

SMAIV029	"Made that up all by yourself?"	These responses to Mysterio and Doc Ock taunts are taken from PS2 game and they would be used in the game if the links to these files weren't broken in the dialog.ini file of the System folder. You can easily fix these mistakes and make all of the Spidey's clips work again. Just remove ".WAV" endings and change "VO.Audio" to "VOAudio" in all "NextSound" lines. For example, to fix Spidey's response to Mysterio's combat taunt 1, change "NextSound=VO.Audio.SMSSP109.WAV" to "NextSound=VOAudio.SMSSP109". After that you will hear the initial Spidey's jokes in the game.

SMSSP109	"Mysterio? I think I had a bowl of mysterios for breakfast."

smvch003_GottaMoveFast	"Okay, I gotta move fast!"	A similar line was used in the game, but without "okay".
SMVO011A	"Sure would be nice to stress-test my new camera and scrunch a few pennies out of Jonah."	Another cut mention of Jonah Jameson and the only line about Peter's camera. Could be from a different version of SM2, easily.
SMVO012A	"Bingo!"	The line would definitely need an edit...
SMVO027A	"Maybe if I web up his face he won't see me coming."	This line could be literally about any boss besides Mysterio, but most likely Rhino. Was it really necessary to web his face up? It still does damage, if you didn't know, that's why you can't web Rhino any time you want, otherwise it would be really possible to defeat him web only. What if initially he could be tricked into running into a wall only with his face webbed?
Sp_Gn_B_019	"If I can just get close enough to web his face, I might be able to get a few good licks in."	Could be about Rhino as well, but what if it was for Ock?
SMVO033A	"You're getting colder, colder, warmer... Nope, you're ice!"	Most likely the line was meant for Rhino and not exactly in the freezing room, it's just a game "colder or warmer"...
SMVPR002_BetterCheckOut	"I'd better check it out, I should be able to help."	The second file is just an edited version of the first one. Both unused.
SMVPR002_BetterCheckOut2	"I'd better check it out."
Sp_Ge_B_avoidwire1	"Tripwire? Better not touch that!"	Tripwire are those red lasers in Oscorp and warehouse. The line really didn't make sense, everyone knows that lasers are bad!
Sp_Gn_B_004	"Mary Jane? There's something I've been wanting to tell you a long time..."	Sounds like there could be a cutscene of Peter telling MJ that he's a Spider-Man. Or... it was a phone booth call, just like in the movie. Mary at least doesn't have any unused lines that could suggest it was a conversation.
Sp_Gn_B_005	"Boy, this is hard... No, no, I'm gonna do it. I have something to tell you Mary Jane and I'm not gonna let anything stop me, no matter how stupid... or contrived..."
Sp_Gn_B_006	"But Jonah, you did use it. You ran it this morning! See?"	So, Daily Bugle cutscenes were planned indeed? Or are these lines from the PS2 version? Jonah has zero lines in the files of the game. There's also zero lines that could be even potentially considered responses to these lines...
Sp_Gn_B_007	"I'm freelance!"
Sp_Gn_B_016	"No pictures of Spidey leaving a scene of mass destruction and chaos. Sorry J. Jonah... Really could use the money too."	Funny, but there's also this line. Maybe photography could really be a thing in the game...
Sp_Gn_B_042	"Doc's gone. And whoever he was talking to. Just mine luck..."	This line could be made for Oscorp level. Maybe Spidey could see him talking to Mysterio?
Sp_Gn_B_055	"You hypnotized Puma... What's the matter, cuddles? Getting to old to take me on yourself?"	Hm... Technically, it makes sense. Puma was never really a Spidey "villain" in comics. Yeah, they fought, but sometimes also even teamed up. He's a businessman and some tribe leader, not a random mercenary Ock could hire to do what he wants. Looks like the initial plan to explain why he was that evil in the game was this. Puma was hypnotized by... Mysterio? These lines are pretty close to the ones that were seemingly meant for Twisted City levels... Not like Doc could do this anyway.
Sp_Gn_B_079	"That makes two of us. You don't remember anything at all? Whoever did this played us both for fools..."	This line is most likely from the first version of the final dialogue with Puma. He wouldn't remember anything, because he was hypnotized by Mysterio. So he wouldn't tell Spidey Ock kidnapped Mary Jane. And initially she would be kidnapped only on the subway level. So maybe in this original story version it could really be a thing - after the fight with Puma Spidey would find out, that Puma wasn't in it by consent.
Sp_Gn_B_080	"Thanks for the good times and red herrings, fluffy. Don't ever change."	And that would most likely be the last line of their conversation, so they really could end it on a more higher note.
