Unused Graphics#
Some placeholder sprites by the driver.
Unused fence texture.
Unused tiles texture.
Unused panels texture with 'hidden' message 'KAKI MORI SASA' on one of the panels.
Unused textures for a NAMCO building that would probably go near the service center, or in place of one of the buildings used in the final.
There are also early versions of textures that were used on buildings in this area of the track. The 'Galaxian' sign is possibly for the top of the garage.
Unused textures for parts of the Beach Hotel.
Unused road sign texture.
Regional Differences#
Three versions of the game are present in MAME: the Japanese version (version RR1), the World version (version RR2) and the US version (version RR3).
Originally, version RR3 was the parent set and was called "World," similar to version RR2. However, later on, version RR2 became the parent set, with version RR3 becoming a clone of it, now renamed "US." This change suggests that version RR3 is actually a US release rather than a revision of version RR2.
Sign Changes#
In general:
- The Japanese version has four different signs: Wonder Eggs, Cyber Station, Aladdin's Castle and Brent Leisure Limited (Namco's European arcade distributor).
- The World version has three: Cyber Station, Aladdin's Castle and Brent Leisure Limited. The Wonder Eggs sign was removed.
- The US version got the shame to only have the Brent Leisure Limited one.

For obvious reasons, the Aladdin's Castle sign, near the checkpoint, was replaced with a Brent Leisure Limited one in the US version.

Arcade Archives 2#
There are two versions of Ridge Racer: the standard version and the deluxe version. The deluxe version is currently undumped in MAME but is now playable in the Arcade Archives 2 release. The most notable difference is that the standard version uses a simple "Down-Up" gear shifter, while the deluxe version features a more professional H-pattern gear shifter and includes a third pedal for the clutch.
