Pizza Pop!

Pizza Pop! is an action platformer for the Famicom. The game's protagonist, a nameless pizza delivery boy, wants to buy a fancy ring for his girlfriend... but he's broke, and a rival delivery boy with a fancy scooter wants to steal his girl! Can he put in enough overtime—and keep his job long enough—to make his dreams a reality?

While previously a Japan exclusive, the game was released internationally for the Nintendo Switch in 2024 as part of the JALECOlle Famicom Ver. line of re-releases.

Unused Graphics#

Pizza Delivery Boy#

Pizza_Pop_boy_pose.png
Some weird pose. It's hard to tell what exactly is this supposed to be.

Pizza_Pop_boy_ducking.png
Another weird pose. Possibly an alternate ducking sprite.

Pizza_Pop_boy_raised_hands.png
Pizza boy falling with his hands raised.

Pizza_Pop_boy_rotated.png
Two rotated sprites.

Pizza_Pop_boy_squatting.gif
Pizza boy squatting or pointing at something.

Enemies#

Pizza_Pop_old_man_looking_up.png
A sprite of an old man from the third and fourth stages looking up.

Pizza_Pop_ghost_with_a_hat.png
A smaller version of the ghosts from the fifth stage with a hat.

Pizza_Pop_hang_glider.png
An unused hang glider enemy.

Pizza_Pop_dog.png
An unused dog enemy. There are dogs in the game, but this one looks different.

HUD#

Graphics still exist in the ROM meant for an older version of the HUD.

PizzaPopOldHUDPizza.png
A yummy looking pizza.

PizzaPopOldHUDThermometer.png
Tiles for a thermometer. Based on prerelease screenshots, it would have served as the in-game clock. The final game went with a generic digital clock instead.

Other#

Pizza_Pop_witch.png
A witch who makes an appearance as one of the customers. Seems like she was supposed to appear somewhere other than the cutscenes.

Pizza_Pop_unused_bg_characters.png
Three unused background characters. The third one was likely meant to be leaning out of a window or otherwise obscured behind a foreground object.

Unused Levels#

There are three levels the player can't normally access. To do so, enter any of the following Game Genie codes for their respective level. Note that you will also probably want to freeze RAM address $684 so the player character doesn't fall off the screen and die.

Level 08 (AEPKNS)#

PizzaPop-Level08.png

An ocean-themed level. The layout doesn't seem to exist anymore, but there is enemy and object data, consisting of jumping fish and unused pink rafts that move left and right, which the player can stand on.

Some of the background tiles can be seen in a prerelease screenshot.

Level 09 (PEPKNS + GOAZAL + EYSZEYEI)#

PizzaPop-Level09.png

A beach-themed jetski level, similar in appearance to the boss area of stage 6. Layout and object data seems to be intact, including ramps, jumping fish, and powerups. Normally using the first code alone causes the game to load this stage like a normal level, causing the player to fall and die. As such, the last two codes should be used to make it a jetski level.

Level 0E (TEPKNS)#

PizzaPop-Level0E.pngPizzaPop-HauntedHouseTiles1.png A vertical haunted house-themed level. The layout, tileset, and most of the graphics no longer exist, but enemy data is present, including ghosts and flashing green pumpkins. Additionally, there is unique code in place that plays a sound and swaps out the upper half of the background graphics on a fixed timer; judging from the lone segment of graphics that still exist (right), it seems the level would have had trap doors that open and close on a timer.

Unused Music#

Track #6 of the NSF file is not heard anywhere in the game. It was possibly intended to be used as a stage theme, as the only stages that share music in the final game are Stage 1 and Stage 2.

To hear the track in the first stage, use Game Genie code NAEGZIOA. Please note that when using this code, the game reverts back to the stage's usual theme after the mid-boss.
