Phase

Phase was a rhythm game for clickwheel iPods, developed by Guitar Hero developer Harmonix. As such, it plays similarly, except controlled by the clickwheel.

Notably, you were able to import your own music through a special iTunes playlist, which would automatically chart stages based on your songs.

Encode Error#

If a song is added in the Phase Music playlist but isn't referenced in the Phase Library file (located at DEVICE\iPod_Control\GameData_RW\1D000\Phase Data), trying to play it will give the following error:

ENCODE IN ITUNES
You must encode this song in iTunes before playing it in Phase.

While it's normally impossible for this to happen, it can be seen if you use a third-party iPod syncing program like Floola to add a song to the playlist on your iPod.
