Cheat Codes#
Cheat codes spelling out words or phrases are plentiful here. All of these codes end with the Select button and play a sound when activated. See the notes page for details on its format.

Hidden Teams#
Normally, winning an MLB season results in hidden teams being unlocked as extra opponents. A Hidden Games menu option can then be unlocked by inputting A, B, X, Y, Up, Down, Select on the title screen.
Additionally, inputting X, Up, A, Right, B, Down, Y, Left, Select on the title screen immediately unlocks all four hidden teams.
Defeating all of the hidden teams in order yields the following vague ending message, with the game's save data (i.e. unlocked hidden teams) being erased afterwards:
It is possible to play as the hidden teams but only if you 'PLAY HARD.'
A method to play as the hidden teams without any save data prerequisites or cheat devices was discovered nearly 30 years after the game's release:
- Set up a 2P or exhibition match.
- On the pre-match screen with the team logos displayed over the batting view, hold either the L or R shoulder button while inputting one of the codes below.
- The game should play a sound, do a fade transition, then switch to the hidden team.
- Repeat for controller 2 as desired.
- Play ball!
Note that both players cannot pick the same hidden team, just like the regular ones.
There are four hidden teams playable this way:
Team |
Code |
|---|---|
Tampa Bay Devil Rays |
X, X, X, Select |
Arizona Diamondbacks |
A, A, A, Select |
Nintendo |
B, B, B, Select |
Nintendo 64 |
Y, Y, Y, Select |
Credits Sequence#
Inputting Y, A, B, B, A, Down, A, B, B, A, Down, Up, Select (spells out YABBADABBADU, or "Yabba Dabba Doo", the catchphrase of Fred Flintstone) on the title screen triggers the credits sequence normally seen after winning the world series.
Region Lockout Bypass#
Inputting B, A, Y, Start, B, A, Left, Left, Start, Up, X, Select (spells out BAYSBALLSUX or "baseball sucks") with controller 2 on the region error screen ("This game pack is not designed for your SUPER FAMICOM or SUPER NES.") bypasses the screen and resumes normal game execution. (Use Game Genie code 2D67-D46D to display this screen on NTSC consoles)
Unused#
Input lists are present for cheat codes which appear to be unreferenced by the game. They were likely removed due to their offensive nature, perhaps only used during development as a test before swapped out with the modern codes.
The below table summarises them in the same format as the used cheat codes (where Select is the final input):
PRG-ROM Offset |
Code |
Possible Explanation |
|---|---|---|
$00DE7C |
A, Y, Down, Select |
AYDS ("AIDS") |
$00DE84 |
Left, Y, X, Down, Y, X, Select |
LYXDYX ("licks dicks") |

Unused Text#
Anti-Piracy#
Text for these anti-piracy screens exist, but goes unused as no anti-piracy programming has been found. Game Genie codes DBFE-B35C will replace the next message screen to the irregularity screen, and DCFE-B35C will replace the next message screen to the anti-piracy screen (the easiest way to jump to a message screen is to play the game on a PAL console, which will replace the region error with one of the two messages).
Also present at $00808D are these two strings:
rArEwArE
!PIRATE!
These strings would be used to handle a false positive scenario when searching the contents of the stack and RAM looking for unauthorized devices (more info on the Donkey Kong Country 2 page). Again, there are no programming that loads them. It is presumed that anti-piracy methods were originally intended to be implemented, but was removed late in development.
