Joe & Mac on the NES is a port that you can't call Joe & Mac, due to Mac being completely absent in this version (in case you wondering, Player 2 still controls Joe. Lame!)

Level Skip#

Attain a high score (minimum 5,000 points), then enter BUNNYEAST as a name. The name will change to EXCELLENT to confirm correct entry. Now simply press Select during gameplay to skip to the next level. Note that if this is done on the last level, the game will loop back to the first level.

The name used to activate this feature is only present in the US version, it cannot be activated in the EU version.

Regional Differences#

Europe

The last default name in the high score table was changed from "Chrissy" to "Chris".

Misc.#

  • The European version shows the whole intro cutscene, where some cavemen enters in a tent and dragging some cavewomen out of it. In the US version, the intro cutscene was shortened, only showing the cavemen entering in the tent.
  • The US version uses the typical-but-convenient buttons scheme: B to Fire and A to jump. The European version, for some strange reason, swaps the action buttons, resulting in an awkward experience: B to Jump and A to Fire.
