At the title screen, hold A + C + Down + Left and press Start. Release the buttons when the screen goes black, and you'll access a hidden menu that contains both a level select and a sound test. Amusingly, the menu's background in the Japanese version uses the same graphics as the title screen, but with the international version's palette and tilemap. Perhaps the Japanese localization team wasn't aware of the menu's existence?
Undocumented QA Cheats#
After collecting the first five pickups in the following order ("Cake", "Hammer", "Earth", "Apple", "Tap"), the player is given 32767 ticks of invincibility, or around 10 minutes. This also auto-unlocks all doors in the castle hub next time the castle is loaded. This "CHEAT" also enables the following QA-like features in the final game, accessible by pausing and inputting a sequence of buttons:
Input |
Result |
|---|---|
AAAA |
Attempts to skip James to the final exit trigger |
ABAB |
Alternate method to skip James to the final exit trigger (may work when AAAA fails) |
BABA |
Replace the player's score with the current level ID |
UDBA |
Give the player another 2000 ticks (~2 minutes) of invincibility |
LRAB |
Gives the player flying hair pickup |

Unused Jingle#
"Jingle 1" on the sound test is some sort of victory fanfare that's never used in the game.
Unused Graphics#
An igloo was included in the first game, but is missing from the intro in every version.
A snowman, also missing from the intro.
The biscuit wrappers that would contain the penguins. This whole scene is either missing or coded not to include it.
Would appear at the bottom of the screen after the penguins are in biscuit wrappers, with the slogan "One of the most chocolatiest biscuits in the world."
