Isle of Reveries had plenty of ideas that didn't make the cut. Unused text in the game code reveals a lot of interesting details.
There is a good chunk of text not visible in any textboxes throughout the game, including the unused maps. Therefore, the exact formatting for these is unknown.

PilgrimsClimb#
Marble#
Hey, the wind blew your cape right into my face while you were napping.
Next time I'll dodge it and you'll be capeless, pal.
I'm kidding, Lief. I'd jump
off the side of the isle to
grab your cape.
You know you can get out of a pit if you move backward quickly, right?
But I would jump clear over them, so I'd never need to do that.
The internal text refers to Marble as "Rabbit" - the only indication this belongs to him is the third text, which is the only one viewable in-game. The exact format of the remaining text is unknown. This is another piece of evidence the player was originally going to start out without the ability to jump, and obtaining Lief's Cape early on. In the final game, Lief's Cape is always available.

The Old Frog's dialogue is simpler, and Clem talks right after the Old Frog in the same text sequence in the early version. Clem's text around saving Lief "again" has no context and it's unclear what she means.

While still impatient, Clem is slightly more polite and less nosy in the final.
The last textbox for Clem in the unused map can't be closed and softlocks the game. The game looks to add Clem to your notebook

In the early version, Clem curiously mentions there are no monsters when there's one just the screen before. She makes no note of the sword you obtained in the final text.
AkedoGrotto_Entrance#
Upon entering the room#
Mr. Akedo
Um, as you can see, I've
gotten myself into a bit of
a pickle.
I was trying to take down
my crane game, as I feel
it's too derivative--
Fairy
--Too derivative, or you
get trapped in it every
time?
Mr. Akedo
...
Look, just get me down so
you can play my new game.
I promise it's a lot of
fun.
Talking to Mr. Akedo for the first time#
Mr. Akedo
I think you'll like my
game.
It's called: 'Akedo's
Grotto of Ordeals.'
The lore: I lost my golden
leaves and want them back.
Like, actually.
Objective: get to the end
of the floor. There are
some twists. Hehe...
Wanna trade two leaves to
unlock the next level?
If you say no, the textbox closes and nothing else happens.
Mr. Akedo
Thank you for returning my
leaves. Have fun. hehe.
This actually subtracts two leaves from your inventory, something that never happens in the final game, complete with the HUD showing the leaf count changed.
If you don't have enough Akedo Leaves
Mr. Akedo
Come back when you've found
at least two of my golden
leaves.
Completing the first challenge#
Mr. Akedo
Grr...
Well, that level was pretty
easy.
Talk to me again when you
want to play the next
level.
Lief got the Frog Amulet
Trinket! Manage trinkets?
Completing it grants you an unused Frog Amulet trinket with a simple graphic. It doesn't show up in the menu so it's not possible to actually equip.
Completing the second challenge#
Mr. Akedo
What!? Augh, my next level
should take you out for
sure...
Fairy
Is he actually trying to
kill you?
I think you should keep
playing his little game.
I'm not trying to kill you!
I promise.
I want to find out if this
creature is Good or Evil.
The capitalization of "Good" and "Evil" is an interesting detail.
Completing this challenge grants you a full Goddess Petal and will increase your number of hearts even if you're at maximum health. However, the HUD cannot display more than 16 hearts.
Talking to Mr. Akedo after the second challenge is complete#
Unfortunately, my next
level isn't available in
this demo.
But it will be the end of
you...
Teehee... He... He...
Despite Mr. Akedo's hints at how hard the challenge is, the current, incomplete iteration of the third challenge is much easier than the second. The mention of "demo" is unclear - perhaps this challenge was in a demo version of the game.
After the third challenge is complete#
Mr. Akedo
Ow.
Ahem. Getting me down was actually the first level in my new game.
Aren't I brilliant?
Since you cleared that level, you can have this Yellow Thingy, I guess.
Obtaining Item#
Lief was rewarded with a... Yellow Thingy!
It seems to be a wooden crown that's sloppily painted yellow.
This appears to be the original way the Crock's Crown was obtained.
Post-item#
Mr. Akedo
Let me know when you want to continue with my new game.
Again, it's a lot of fun.
Fairy
Sure. Just don't get yourself trapped in the meantime.
AkedoGrotto_B3#
Lief reclaimed their
Gauntlet!
This chest calls the Hero's Gauntlet just the "Gauntlet".
Fairy
Mr. Akedo said we can take one of these as a prize.
While the event doesn't trigger in-game, entering the final room would give the player a choice between either a Bug Net or a Fishing Rod.
When choosing the Bug Net#
Fairy
...Better not use this Bug Net on me. Want it?
When choosing the Fishing Rod#
Fairy
I'm getting a weird feeling that this isn't programmed yet.
Still want it?
After choosing the Fishing Rod#
Fairy
Oh, we all know what this does. You should probably take it.
Menu
Unused text indicates there were originally going to be more descriptions on the pause menu. In the final game, only the Quest menu has descriptions, even for the arrows at either end before to the screen they lead to.
Pilgrim's Sword
Heavily used and rusty.
Arthur's Edge
Sharp and as light as a feather.
Clem's Lantern
Light area & set fires.
Flare Coil
Light area & set fires with greater range.
Claw'ncher
Grab and pull foes & objects.
Fairy Slinger
Shoot partner at foes & objects.
Power Pogo
Leap into the skies.
Rift Wand
Create up to 2 portals for teleportation.
This one is very interesting, indicating it worked differently at some point in development.
Crescent Shield
Block weak attacks & reflect light.
Whirleaf
Gust of wind sends blocks & foes flying.

Despite just referring to the Equip subscreen one textbox prior, the early text mentions the "menu subscreen" and how to access it. Considering the buttons used vary by controller and input method, the final version omits this.
Pilgrim's Sword#

The final text is a bit more detailed regarding the sword's condition.
Lief found a Pilgrim's Sword! The blade is a bit rusty.
There's also another variant just a bit closer to the final.
You found a Pilgrim's Sword!
It still feels sturdy despite being a little worse for wear.
Yet another variant.
Bug Net#
Lief was rewarded with a Bug Net!
Equip via the Toolbag Menu in the Equip subscreen.
The Bug Net was a planned item as one of the choices the player can obtain at the end of Mr. Akedo's Grotto of Ordeals. This text refers to the Equip submenu as the "Toolbag Menu". The event code, "BugBag", immediately after indicates it turned into the Bag O' Bomb Bugs.
Fishing Rod#
Lief was rewarded with a Fishing Rod!
The Fishing Rod was a planned item in addition to the Bug Net at the end of Mr. Akedo's Grotto of Ordeals.
Lief's Cape#
Lief tightened their cape! Press RT/RB to jump over obstacles and foes.
Lief tightened their cape! Press S to jump over obstacles and foes.
There's "get item" text (in addition to "get item" sprites) indicating Lief's Cape was going to be an obtainable item. There are two variants of this text in the code, both mentioning specific buttons to jump. In the final game, the jump button is configurable.
