When a new patch goes live, IO Interactive re-render many of the in-game items into inventory thumbnails; this includes unused weapons, unused suits, placeholder weapons and, really, anything else in the game. Essentially, if you can find it in a level and you can pick it up, then it very likely has a thumbnail for it. Here are the ones that you'll never see when opening your inventory:
A USB dongle. Hitman 3 replaced all instances of USB dongles with those resembling the dongles found in Chongqing. There are at least five other inventory images of this item in the files that are identical, thanks to the dongle being reused under different item ID's.The old image used for the Measuring Tape.The old thumbnail for the Emetic Syringe MK.IIThe old image for the Modern Sedative Syringe.An unused Sedative Syringe MK.II.The old image used for the Fishing Line.The Headphones from Hitman 2's Smart Casual Pack. What happens in Berlin...also shows up on this wiki.A Laptop.Silver Merces only show up as a rare reward in Freelancer for completing a syndicate hit; they are not able to be seen in the inventory like the other Merces coins.A glass cup usually used in the Hitman locations.Umbrella's are not an inventory item for 47, so this goes unused.Same as the previous, the umbrella is not considered an inventory item, and goes unused.A notebook NPC's frequently use.Noodles found in Chongqing. 47 cannot pick these up in a mission, but another server can.
These are items that look...funky. From grenades exploding at the wrong time, to a camera floating in mid-air. There's a lot to go through here.

Since this is tied to an animation, and not something 47 can carry around with him, this goes unused.A slightly-out-of-frame emetic poison vialA snow globe post-explosion.A Green Easter Egg from the Berlin Egg Hunt exploding.An out-of-frame poison vial eating the camera.Lil' Flashy but rotated.An out-of-shot Mushroom.A Feather Duster from the Isle of Sgail that has lighting issues and is out of shot slightly.An exploding flash device.The Goldbrick from the Seven Deadly Sins DLC exploding.An unused syringe.A phone at the wrong angle.A box of rat poison at an awkward angle.A single tube of Rat Poison. This is used when 47 poisons food, but it's not visible in your inventory in this form.
