Fighting Hero

It's just like Street Fighter, only with less streets!

Unused Graphics#

The game contains an unused NTDEC logo with the ending graphics.

The Mega Soft version's ROM image furthermore has tile pattern data for a title screen with an NTDEC rather than a Mega Soft logo, and a 1990 rather than a 1991 date, in an otherwise unused CHR bank at NES ROM offset 0x39010. Using these tile patterns, the title screen would look like this:

Cheat Mode#

The developers actually ported over the main character's special moves, however these are locked behind a cheat and can only be used in single player mode.

At the title screen, press A + B + Left + Up and then on the stage select screen hold B + Left + Down until Leon is crouching.

The code was changed in version 1.2: At the title screen, press A + B + Right + Down and then on the stage select screen hold A + Down until Leon is crouching.

This will unlock the following commands:

  • Fireball - Left + A + B
  • Dragon Punch - Up + A + B
  • Spinning Kick - Right + A + B

Note that these commands are the same regardless of the direction Leon is facing. Also getting a game over will result in the special attacks being disabled again.

Revisional Differences#

Three different versions of this game exist: The original version, version 1.1 (Rev 1) and version 1.2 (Rev 2). Version 1.1 seems to be the most common version as it's used by most players, which is why this game is heavily criticized for its subpar controls.

Revisions

The original version mistakenly refers to the developer as "Maga Soft" in the title screen and credits, a typo which was fixed in the other versions.

Misc.#

  • Version 1.2 improves the controls by having them do actions as soon as the button is pressed (just like Street Fighter II and its sequels) instead of when it's unpressed (just like the first Street Fighter).
  • The original version and version 1.1 have two distinct themes during the ending: the first one is a rendition of Romeo and Juliet's What is a Youth and is played during the characters' cast, while the second one is a rendition of Secret Agent Man and is played during the credits. Version 1.2 redundantly uses the latter for both the characters' cast and the credits.
