Devil World (NES)

This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

To do:

  • Determine the effect of the CPU $CC01 change in JP rev 1.
  • Regional differences beyond the visible ones.

Devil World is a maze game designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka that's probably most notable for not being released in America due to its religious themes. It would eventually see the light of day through the Nintendo Switch Online service almost 40 years later, though.

Revisional Differences#

The Japanese version received one revision (rev 1) which changed the following:

  • The reset handler was adjusted to initialize PPU registers sooner, in order to mitigate a bug where the game would hang if an NMI was triggered during the first frame of startup/reset.
  • An instruction at CPU $CC01 was changed from LDA #$03 to CMP #$02.

The European version appears to be based on rev 1.

The European version moves the screen slightly upwards and cuts off a single line of pixels from the series of blocks from above.
