This is a sub-page of Command & Conquer: Generals/Unused Content in the Original/Missions and Maps.
Tutorial#
In the Tutorial mission, your main objective is to destroy a GLA bio-chemical plant. However the mission contains few traces that reference a SCUD Storm. Initially, this was the original target but was replaced with the bio-chemical plant at some point. The bio-chemical plant object in the map is still named SCUD Storm Target.
USA#
Mission 1#
The first USA mission disables a unit with the object ID of AmericaInfantryRangerMissileTeam.
No such unit exists in the final game but related leftovers are found in the Build Alpha 98 prototype as well as Zero Hour.

Mission 3#
WIP Disabled Scripts
Mission 4#
Various scripts and waypoint names suggest that terrorists were to spawn out of tents and attack the player under certain conditions. But since the tents are destroyed by the carpet bombers, the scripts do not trigger.
Cut Mission 5#

This was the original fifth mission of the campaign. The map is pretty barebones, containing nothing but a town with civilian buildings and a hotel, 3 bridges on a river that leads to another land, and a developer message made from tiles saying it needs an airport.
The objective is unknown although only one script is left with the hilarious title EXCUSE_ME_PLEASE was used for intro.
Mission 5#
Internally, this is the sixth mission but since one mission was cut from each campaign, it replaced the original fifth mission.
The Chinese were meant to appear in this mission alongside the USA. Unused players, teams, and scripts suggest China played a role in this mission. The units that chase after the GLA in the intro cutscene were originally Dragon Tanks and Battlemasters, not Crusaders. In some trailers that show this mission, both the USA and China are shown to be controllable, with their respective team colors. The non-working debug keyboard shortcut DEMO_SWITCH_TEAMS_CHINA_USA found in some prototype builds suggests that the ability to switch teams was present in the game but removed later on since it was obviously meant only for internal tests by the developers.
Interestingly, The Chinese statistics screen shows the original chase with Chinese units.
China#
Mission 2#
Originally, the objective of this mission was completely different. You had to prevent the GLA from launching terrorist attacks on various famous buildings in Hong Kong. If you managed to protect the buildings, you were rewarded with additional troops. This was most likely removed because it was too reminiscent of 9/11, and instead you're just left to destroying the GLA base. The terror teams and their paths are still in the map scripting but the corresponding attack scripts have been deleted. For this reason, there are leftover sounds telling you to upgrade to radar (for detecting the terrorists). The troop support on the other hand has been made a regular feature of the map. There were five targets in total, they were as follows:
- 1: Civilian highrise (at the coast, second building from the right counting from the road leading to the convention center).
- 3: Skyscraper (right before the toxin base).
- 4: Hotel (behind the toxin base).
- 5: Hotel (right in front of the convention center).
It becomes obvious from the list that the second target is missing. This building appears to have been removed; the waypoint points to the field where you build up your base.
- Apparently, you were unable to build a War Factory yourself. Instead, you had to find a "surplus base" which contained a War Factory for you to use. Maybe this was a bit too boring? It wouldn't fit anywhere on the current map either, so the map must have been different at some point.
- There used to be a cutscene where an EMP bomb stopped a large GLA assault. The developers possibly considered it a bit too early to introduce this weapon.
Mission 3#
The mission contains loads of unused waypoints as well as scripts which would reveal the river and the city. Could have been for the intro somehow, but ultimately their purpose is unknown.
Mission 4#
The mission has a team which references a non-existing unit named GLAInfantryAssassin. It's actually a cut GLA unit. Although little of it remains in the game, its model can be found in Zero Hour.
Mission 8#
Not much remains of this mission other than text references. It consists of a huge valley with the default asphalt texture, and literally nothing else. The map contains no scripts, waypoints or teams, suggesting little work was put into it and was cut pretty early on.
GLA#
Mission 1#
This mission has two unused speeches for the intro cutscene. Both were meant to be said by those bomb trucks that destroy the reactors. The first one can be found defined in the mission's scripts, but other one was never implemented and is only found in the sound files. There's a waypoint called "GLA Player Dam Killers Return Here" located in the player's secret base in the mountains. Apparently, the developers wanted the player units to return after destruction of the dam. However, this idea was not used for unknown reasons.
Mission 2#
The mission contains a player named Partisans that is set to consider the player as an enemy. It might be a leftover of the cut Partisan units, they would've likely appeared in this mission.
Cut Mission 3#
The third GLA mission was completely removed from the game.
In this mission, the civilians of Zhambul have been subject to Chinese propaganda and thus switched to the Chinese side. Your job is to use the Toxin Tractors to kill the traitors. You get access to several utilities like the Anthrax Bomb through the course of the mission to quickly kill many civilians. Once 300 civilians have been killed, the mission is completed.
This mission was likely considered way too brutal and ethically unacceptable, which led to its removal. It still shows in the ending of the GLA campaign.
Six years after the game's release, EA released the level as a free download.
Mission 3#
The third GLA mission is internally the fourth.
Various unused scripts, waypoints and teams suggest the mission originally had another objective, possibly a secondary one, that consisted of kidnapping and preventing the escape of an "Ambassador" unit. The waypoints for his escape route begin behind a skyscraper placed on the middle of the map and it goes through the Chinese base and into the airport.
Mission 4#
The fourth GLA mission is internally the fifth.
A group of unused dialogue tracks suggest the mission was going to have an avalanche scene in a part of sequence. A Humvee quote mentions that an avalanche is going to fall over the village. When you consider the tall mountain and the small village made of tents, the area near bridge is the most suitable place for this event. There's still avalanche objects in the game, probably designed specially for this mission but looks like developers had to remove this event from the mission for unknown reasons.
