College Football USA '97 was the last EA college football game on the SNES and the first one to appear on the platform in three years. It also came out months after its Genesis counterpart!
Unused Stadium Names#
This game has the exact same stadium name mistakes as College Football USA '97 on the Genesis; almost all teams in the game have their stadiums listed, even though this information is never used in gameplay. However there are spelling mistakes, and one school never had its stadium and mascot defined! Only teams with notable spelling or other mistakes are listed for space reasons. Also listed is the Division 1AA mascot information, which is never displayed in game.

University of the Pacific#
The University of the Pacific was in College Football USA '96, but they dropped their football program after the 1995 season.
The text displayed in the special endings is implemented in plain text, and among the available strings of ending text is one for UOP, identical to their appearance in CFB USA '96.
Main Screen Button Combos#
The three main screen button sequences from College Football USA '96/97 on the Genesis return:
Sequence |
Effect |
|---|---|
A B X A A X A A |
Print build date and boot counter |
B B X A A X A B |
View special endings (Check End Game) |
X B X A A X A X |
Check Sound |
In the Genesis version of College Football USA '97 the shortcut (which contains C instead of X on that system) is included as part of the special ending for Division 1AA. The same applies here, but with one very noticeable problem: the sequence still is listed as "BBCAACAB" on the SNES version! (Details like this confirm this game to be a port of the Genesis version, with some graphics and sound brought over from College Football USA '96.)
The SNES build print command is unique in including a boot counter.
Build Date#
At offset 160305 is a build date. This prints with the first button sequence above:
Wed 10-30-1996 5:49:08.25p
