To do:
Document the prototype.

Bonk's Adventure: Arcade Version is a two-player game where the second player is a female Bonk with a yellow dress and shiny purple eyes.

Be prepeared to be bothered by a lousy black bar on the top of the screen, which is kinda embarassing for an arcade game.

Regional Differences#

Similar to Neo Geo games, the game is a single multiregional set in MAME. The language can be changed through service mode.

There're four options: 0 which is Japan (by default the game is set to this option), 1 which is Europe, 2 which is US, 3 which is China and 4 which is Korea.

If the game's language is set to Japan, the game displays a standard export copyright notice on boot. If the game's language is set to any non-Japan options, the game instead goes straight to the intro sequence, as the other languages don't have an equivalent notice.

Title Screen#

Japan

US, China and Korea

Europe

The Japanese title screen shows two smiling faces, which were replaced with a small hammer in the US, Chinese and Korean title screen, while the European title screen is bare.

In Europe the game was renamed B.C. Kid because in the UK the word Bonk is a slang term to having sex with someone.

If the game's language is set to Korea, the Kaneko logo will be replaced with one more creative.

International

Korea

I'm sure that Neko is referred to a cat.

Revisional Differences#

There're two editions of the game: the Standard edition, and the Special edition, which acts like a ticket redemption machine. It's possible to change the game's edition through DIP Switches.

Intro Sequence#

Standard

Special

The intro is slightly changed in the Special edition. Instead of having a harsh expression for destroying a wall, Bonk now have a smiling one holding a bunch of tickets, doing a V sign and challenges you to "WIN MORE TICKETS!"

Title Screen#

Standard

Special

The bottom part of the title screen is now flodded with tickets, the three starting tickets were added along with the "PLAY NOW! +3 TICKETS" and "LET'S GET MORE TICKETS" messages.
