The Titans

This is a sub-page of Age of Mythology.

Unused Unit Types#

The file protox.xmb contains unused unit types for myth units: MythUnitCavalry, MythUnitArcher, MythUnitInfantry, and MythUnitSiege. This indicates that a counter system amongst Myth units was planned.

Unused Audio#

Dryad#

When a Dryad is tasked to attack, she may reuse the Caladria's "Eshlōst" voice clip despite the Dryad having her own unique voice file for the "Eshlōst" voiceline. The unused voice line has an extra period in the filename.

Unused Graphics#

Some icons in the The Titans expansion pack come in a 128x128 resolution, and they aren't used by the game for some reason. Most of them are identical to the 64x64 icons used but some of them are early versions.

Economic Guild#

AOM_ExPac_Guild_64.png AOM_ExPac_Guild_128.png The Economic Guild doesn't use its 64x64 icon, and shows the icon of Granary instead. Also, its unused 128x128 icon is far more detailed.

Heavy Fireships#

AOM_ExPac_HeavyFireships.png

A cut Atlantean technology that would've upgraded their Fireships. The icon has nothing but temporary text and was probably cut early on.

Kastor#

AOM_ExPac_Kastor.png

An unused drawn/painted icon of Kastor, the final game uses a frontal render of the cinematic model.

Mirror Tower#

AOM_ExPac_MirrorTower.png

The unused 128x128 icon of the Mirror Tower depicts an early model, itself based off an early model for the Guard Tower.

University#

AOM_ExPac_University.png

A cut building, probably intended as a unique building for the Atlanteans. The original game was also going to feature the University as a building for all civilizations, perhaps they wanted to recycle this idea for the expansion pack.

Unused Text#

History#

Musk Ox#

A history file for the cut Musk Ox animal.

Scientific name -- Ovibos maschatus
Size -- Up to 900 lbs.
Diet -- Grasses, willow leaves, arctic flowers

Musk oxen are large, long haired, horned animals that are well adapted to cold environments and thrive in the arctic tundra. They stand up to 5 feet tall with a low-slung body and hoofed feet. Musk oxen travel in herds to protect their young from predators, such as the arctic wolf. Despite their common name, musk oxen are not oxen nor do they have musk glands. They are more closely related to goats or sheep.

Unused Textures#

Agamemnon Statue#

AOM_ExPac_AgamemnonStatue01.png AOM_ExPac_AgamemnonStatue02.png Agamemnon was to appear in the expansion's story, as evidenced by prerelease screenshots but was replaced by the newly created character of General Melagius. These textures are of his statues that would've dotted the map in the Greetings from Greece scenario.

It should be noted that while the original game's depiction of the Trojan War deviates heavily from canon Greek Mythology, the removal of Agamemnon might be one of the few cases where it does not since Agamemnon dies after returning from Troy.

Ice Titan#

AOM_ExPac_IceTitan.png

A texture sheet of either a cut Titan, or an early version of the Norse Titan.

Kraken#

AOM_ExPac_Kraken.png

This texture doesn't fit the actual Kraken model, and it maybe be for a cut cinematic model for the original game.

Musk Ox#

AOM_ExPac_MuskOx.png

The Musk Ox is a cut animal that would've likely appeared in Tundra maps, there is also a history section file for it (see above). While there's no model, it's possible to recreate it since the Norse Caravan (an actual Musk Ox) uses a similar texture sheet.

Statue Standin#

AOM_ExPac_Statue_StandIn.png

Texture for a statue that seems to depict Arkantos in his God form. True to its file name, statue standin, it was used temporarily in prerelease screenshots as a placeholder in places where the Atlantean Major Gods Statue models would've appeared (Town Centers, Temples, etc). The icon for the Atlantean Town Center in the final game still shows this statue.

Statues#

Various textures for some cut statues.

Tartarian Gate Creatures#

AOM_ExPac_TartarianGateCreature_A.png AOM_ExPac_TartarianGateCreature_B.png It seems the creatures that spawn from the Tartarian Gate had a different look at some point, lava seems to cover some parts of their bodies especially the legs. These textures do not fit the current model.
