v0.99

This article has a talk page!
view on tcrf.net

This is a sub-page of Proto:Undertale.

This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace.

This build was compiled on September 8th, 2015 at UTC 01:31:32 AM and the manifest is from September 8th, 2015 at UTC 02:35:30 AM. Build initially found by Dusk. This build appears similar, if not the same one seen in the UNDERTALE Release Trailer posted on Toby's YouTube Channel.

Seeing that this build predates the final release of the game by only a week, much of the game's content is already in place. Despite this, there is a sizable number of differences and changes present, suggesting that quite a lot was still being tweaked just before release.

This build can be obtained by downloading from a Steam Manifest using the following command inside the Steam Console: download_depot 391540 391541 7991099072100261027

General Differences#

Missing Dataminer Messages#

The "attention_hackerz_no_2" script exists but is completely blank in this build of the game, meaning either the script was made and no text was thought of just yet, or the text inside the script was written with code comments which GameMaker Studio stopped leaving in when compiling.

The "demonx" message telling people to not spoil secrets inside scr_namingscreen is also completely missing.

In the script for the question of who Alphys has a crush on, the hidden note from Alphys is missing.

Name Creation Screen#

The Name Creation screen in this version is missing the "aaaaaa" name easter egg.

The screen is also missing some extra checks for when you already have a name set that are present in v1.00. More specifically, it is missing the check to see if you are currently doing a "True Reset", and the check to see if your current name is set to "frisk" or not.

The text in the instructions menu also differs, namely the "Enter", "Shift" and "CTRL" text is missing and the version number says v0.99.

v0.99

v1.00

Missing Sprites#

Two sprites are missing from this version of the game, that being spr_circlebullet_noc and spr_firebullet_noc, which are both duplicates of already existing sprites in the game, being spr_circlebullet_sm and spr_firebullet_center.

Dialog Differences#

There are multiple pieces of dialog that have slightly different control code: Instead of ending with a "\C/", they were changed to end with a "\C".

Name Creation Screen (Name Already Set)#

v0.99

v1.00

A name had already
been chosen.
A name has already

 * But no one's seen
  their cousin for a

Papyrus and Undyne Hotel Call#

v0.99

v1.00

* Dr. Alphys's greatest invention
.

 * METTATON NEO - 90 ATK 9 DEF
* Dr. Alphys's greatest
  invention.

The third line break in the dialogue used to be after "invention" but before the ending dot, causing only the dot to appear on the third line. Obviously, this looks bad, so the line breaks were adjusted to look more natural.
