This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace. |
A prototype of TimeSplitters 2 on PS2 that was made a month before the final build. Despite appearing similar on the surface, it has many smaller differences in difficulty, structure, and presentation that set it apart. A few major changes were also made before release!
Gameplay and Presentation#
- The Gothic Tileset is available without mods in the MapMaker. It is referred to as "Gothic" instead of "4", as it is listed when using mods in the final game.
- The Silenced Luger and Silenced Luger (x2) are available without mods in MapMaker. They take the spots of the Luger Pistol and Luger Pistol (x2).
- The Sample Maps included in the game come from the original TimeSplitters. They cannot be loaded or played.
- Curved surfaces are tougher to walk on without slipping off.
- There is no option for LAN play in the Network menu.
- Having more than 5 weapons collected causes their names to appear past the pause menu's borders.
- The Platinum trophy icon is lighter in menus.
Arcade Mode#
- Some characters appear taller in the Arcade Custom character select menu's borders.
- Characters are rendered fully lit in Arcade Custom's character select.
- The "killed by" text in Arcade is blue and is presented differently.
- Ufopia has a different Arcade Custom preview image.
- The missing bag icon in Capture the Bag is different. It features a team-colored question mark and exclamation point above the bag's empty ring.
- Neotokyo's music is listed as "Tokyo" in Arcade Custom.
- Bots are much more accurate when targeting characters using the Shrink powerup.
- You can be killed during the "Time Up!" ending to Arcade matches.
- Committing suicide as the Gladiator can sometimes cause you to respawn with the Gladiator filter active. The effect is purely cosmetic and cannot be stacked upon becoming Gladiator again.
- Monkey Assistants appear on the radar even when they haven't spawned. They cluster together in one place until they respawn. Their current radar location does not always match where they will spawn.
- Infected enemies killed in Virus in Nightclub will have their green flames turn red after dying.
- Weapon pickups in Arcade use the Assault Objectives font size, color, and presentation.
Weapons#
- The weapon ranking order is different.
- Punching the heads off of zombies is much harder to do.
- The Shotgun deals more damage and is held higher up in first-person.
- The Tommy Gun is held higher up in first-person.
- The Fire Extinguisher holds much less ammo.
- The Gun Powder has no animations or sounds when being poured.
- The SBP90 Machinegun's screen isn't animated. It also has less distortion when zoomed.
- The Temporal Uplink has a crosshair when aimed.
- Soviet S47 grenade ammo boxes use bullet decals instead of grenade decals.
- The Lasergun energy meter has purple/blue coloration near its end.
Story Mode#
- Time Portals don't have their own models yet. In Story, they appear as empty Red Bag Bases.
- Story loading screens are in color instead of greyscale.
- Story level icons appear in color when locked instead of in greyscale.
- Ammo pickups are greater in Story.
- Collecting game cartridges does not unlock their music in Arcade Custom.
Siberia#
- One of the Hybrid Mutants can get lost and require tracking down for the objective.
- On Hard, burning the filing cabinets is still a secondary objective.
Chicago#
- Chicago's level select preview is a brighter blue.
- There is a sniper on an overhead path near Marco. He will shoot at the player even when his view is blocked.
- The last callout in the O'Leary's shootout uses text from an unused voice line.
- The restaurant spawn for 2 enemies actually works in this build. It normally doesn't outside of the Homefront: The Revolution port of TS2.
- The last armor pickup is in a hidden higher alcove instead of near the sewer grate.
Notre Dame#
- Notre Dame's briefing has different spelling.
- Sewer Zombie spit appears to be slower.
- The high armor in the catacombs doesn't spawn zombies.
- Additional zombies spawn when releasing the last maiden in the catacombs.
Return to Planet X#
- An Ozor Mox is guarding the bunker before shooting down the UFOs and unlocking the bunker door.
- Return to Planet X's theme eventually loops to mono instead of stereo.
- Only 2 Reaper Splitters spawn near the level's ending. More do not spawn after these 2 are killed.
NeoTokyo#
- A few enemies using cover and throwing grenades do not appear after leaving Sadako's hideout.
Wild West#
- Ramona doesn't talk after being freed from jail.
Atom Smasher#
- More Henchmen attack the scientist near the 2nd bomb.
- Reaper Splitters appear alongside Scourge Splitters in the Khallos battle.
Aztec Ruins#
- The pond in doesn't extinguish fire.
- Torches don't ignite Crossbow bolts.
- High Priests have more health.
- You start with full reserve ammo for the Luger Pistol.
- The horn can occur multiple times if you injure/kill Monkeys while it is playing.
Robot Factory#
- No animation plays when extending the crane in Robot Factory.
- More Reaper Splitters spawn after getting the Time Crystal in Robot Factory.
Space Station#
- The gathered Time Crystals do not appear in Space Station, and there is no objective to collect them.
Arcade League#
- Many Arcade League and Challenge times are different. For example, Adios Amigos has an easier Platinum trophy, but it has tougher Gold and Silver trophies.
- Monkey Immolation's spawns sometimes place infected Monkeys directly next to you.
- Burns Department and Disco Inferno have their places reversed in the "Too Hot To Handle" Arcade League set.
- Gargoyles have more health, especially when becoming Gladiator, in Cold Corpse Caper.
- In Chinese Burns, Calamari will sometimes stand in place after you are ignited by their Flamethrowers.
- The "Duel Meaning" Arcade League set is in completely different order compared to the final game.
- Golden Thighs is structured like a Deathmatch to 15 points. Bullets are not as effective against the Jungle Queen, making Remote Mines or S47 Grenades a necessity.
- You and Mikey Two-Guns have 10 lives instead of 5 in If I'm Ugly, You Smell! Mikey Two-Guns is also much weaker than in the final game.
- Hangar Hats Off! and Can't Please Everyone... have their places reversed in the "Frantic Series" Arcade League set.
- They're Not Pets! only counts your kills when deciding on a trophy score, not your team's total kills.
- Aztec the Dino Hunter tracks time taken, not time left, in-game. It also doesn't show your current kill count.
- You have allied Jebediah Crump bots in Dead Fraction. However, their deaths contribute to the Blue Team's points, making the match much tougher.
- Nice Threads has much easier trophy time requirements.
Challenge#
- Day of the Dammed and Sergio's Last Stand have their places reversed in the "Behead the Undead" Challenge set.
- Fight Off The Living Dead features the Scifi Handgun instead of the Shotgun.
- You have much less health in the "TimeSplitters 'Story' Classic" Challenge set.
- But Where Do The Batteries Go? and Hit Me Baby One Morgue Time have their places reversed in the "TimeSplitters 'Story' Classic" Challenge set.
- "Score!" displays upon completing a "TimeSplitters 'Story' Classic" Challenge.
- Scrapyard plays its level theme instead of Goteki TS Remix in But Where Do The Batteries Go?, even though Goteki TS Remix is present in this prototype.
- Pick Yer Piece starts you with the Shotgun and includes the Luger Pistol, Tommy Gun, Sniper Rifle, and Garrett Revolver as pickups. In the final game, you start with the Sniper Rifle and can pick up the Tommy Gun.
