This needs some investigation. |
A demo of Spec Ops: The Line released on June 12, 2012 that covers the Prologue, Chapter 1, and Chapter 5. Its mechanics are identical to the final game, barring some small differences in presentation.
General Differences#
Unique Cutscenes#
The demo has 3 unique cutscenes that take place after each level is completed. They serve to fill in the narrative gaps between the playable segments, ending in a promotional trailer for the game.
Intel Collection#
Intel recordings can be collected in the same way as in the retail game. However, previous Intel items cannot be listened to again, as the player does not have access to the Intel menu.
Unused Content#
Most of the content in the demo is identical to the final game, but a few unused items remain.
Heavy Flamer#
The Heavy Flamer enemy seen in concept art and the 2010 multiplayer beta actually made it into this demo! It can be found in the SRMPFrontend.upk file. It is fully rigged and can be imported into the final game as a character model. The Flamethrower itself is absent, though.
Intel Items#
Despite there only being a handful of Intel items to collect in the demo levels, all of the final game's Intel recordings are left in the Intel_Menu_LOC_INT.upk file.
