To do:
There are more differences, particularly with the singleplayer stages:

  • Levels may have been slightly altered, and enemy sprites definitely were.
  • Is there any leftover data for levels after Techno Hill?
  • The "quit" messages are different in this build according to the Wiki.
  • What's different about the multiplayer compared to the final release?

SRB2 10th Anniversary Test, later colloquially known as the IRC Match Beta was a semi-public 2.0 beta to test the new ringslinger system which was being redone at the time. Released in February 2008 for SRB2's 10th anniversary, this build only contains the first 2 zones of the game, with minimal changes as the focus of the build was multiplayer content. Despite this, some minor changes exist for singleplayer.

This build was initially not planned for widespread release and was only released over IRC, but the build wound up leaking onto the forums and later onto Youtube. This build also had an internal version string of 1.10, later patched up to 1.10.4.

Rickroll Music#

If you set your screenname to Spazzo, the game will play Never Give You Up by Rick Astley. This change persists even if you change your screenname, and the only way to undo it is to delete your gamedata.dat file or reinstall the entire game.

End Screen Easter Egg#

At the end of Sonic's post-credits speech, when he asks "Did you get all those Chaos Emeralds?", he's interrupted by someone saying "Shut the hell up! Just shut up!" before you get returned to the title screen. Watch on YouTube
