This is a sub-page of Proto:Sonic Generations (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows).

This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace.

Add all differences available in the files.

The E3 Demo prototype is "supposedly" a very early build of Sonic Generations. Showcasing the game at E3 2011, the game's files has a build date of May 7th, 2011, which is three months two weeks and three days to the final game's build date on the console release, according to the game files for the Xbox 360. It was first found by Fruitcake on February 1st, 2019 but wouldn't get an official release until December 25th, 2020 by ObscureGamers as part of Terarelease 1.0. This version was able to be played on both major consoles at the time, but only the PlayStation 3 version has been found.

This demo would presumably be the earliest version, but the files in the 20 Day demo say otherwise. Because of this, this page will only cover the changes between this version and the final release. All the cut content found, unless mentioned otherwise, will be documented in the 20 Day Demo as the files seem to be the most the same.

Description

The buttons here are the same between the this version and the 20 Day Demo.

  • The L1 and R1 Buttons where they were changed in the final game.
  • The Left and Right Sticks have their letters in an odd positioning.
  • The Start and Select Buttons text are not present in the demo version, hence the buttons themselves are not centered in the final.
  • All the buttons here are missing outlines around the icons.

The trick system in the demo was completely changed, as seen the number count goes up to twelve. This was possibly changed to avoid any bugs if the number exceeds that number.

Seems to me mostly final, with only the text being untranslated. In-game, the "To Next Rank" time doesn't have an outline around it.

Gameplay and HUD Elements#

  • Using Spindash will set blue sparks behind the player. This was removed in the final game, but does show up in an image when looking into the controls option for Casino Night.
  • Whenever Modern Sonic does either a Homing Dash or Homing Attack, his blue trail behind him stays with him as it fades away. In the final game, it fades immediately.
  • Grabbing rings from either a monitor in Act 1 or Super Ring in Act 2 will instantly give the player 10 rings. In the final, collecting either one will add up to the number given.
  • Checkpoints are horizontal even before the player passes them. This was changed them always being vertical.
  • Using tricks to fill the boost gauge higher will have a green extension bar rather then a rainbow color in the final game.
  • There is no music after the final results, as it doesn't exist in the game's files.
  • Pressing "Next" after the results will not play a sound effect.

Green Hill (Act 2)#

While Act 1 shows it being final, Act 2 has some minor differences. Some of them c

  • The Beaton badnik was replaced with a Buzz Bomber.
  • A Dash Panel can be found placed near the end of the first 2D section, under the wooden bridge.
  • There is no big splash after the Big Chopper lands into the water, after the Rainbow Ring.
  • The last 2D Rail section, where a Red Star Ring could be found, has is missing a dash panel after the Rainbow Ring.
  • As soon as the player enters land after the last 2D Rail section, there is ledge the player could trip over. While it still plays, it is not visible.
  • Some pathways is kinda broken, as Sonic is in the air in a couple parts. The only areas that's most notable are the last corkscrew and the pathway before the trick jump panel between the last checkpoint.
  • After the last checkpoint, there is two lines of rings in front of the three Crabmeat. In the final, there is only one line of rings. Several more rings are present in the Demo after that, which was changed in the final.
  • The Choppers just after the last loop and Beaton badniks are present here. While they are also present in the final game, via Challenge Acts (such as Tails: Way Past Fast), they do not appear in the main stage.
