On December 15, 2025, the Video Game History Foundation archived and upload over 100 Sega Channel related ROMs.1 Among those are several prototypes which span a wide range of development.
The menu data ROMs are grouped into folders named after who provided them:
- The Shorrock folder contains 14 ROMs provided by Michael Shorrock, former vice president of programming at Sega Channel.
- The Sega Channel Guy folder contains 122 ROMs (67 menus, 55 "Game Guide" ROMs) provided by a community member named Ray, going under the pseudonym Sega Channel Guy.
Pat's Lounge Demo#

This page or section needs more images. |
Pat's Lounge is a concept for three different applications packaged in one. The titular Pat refers to the name of the blue guy in the Sega Channel logo.
- The title of the ROM is "Jordan in Chaos in the Windy City", which this demo was presumably built onto.
Fish Tank#
Fish Tank is an aquarium simulator featuring Pat. You can move left or right to navigate the aquarium.
Fire Place#
Fire Place features, well.. a looping animation of a fireplace. Not much more to say there.
Web#
Web features a demo of what would appear to be a mostly functional web browser running on a Sega console, years before PlanetWeb took a stab at it themselves. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case.
While at one point it could be assumed this would've been fully functional, this demo (and the ones that were spun off of this) are at most comparable to the "browser" included in the Austin Powers GBC titles by Tarantula Studios, only that this was developed about 7 years earlier.
Pressing Start while in this mode will pull up a debug menu.

Sega Channel (W) [374]#
An extremely early build that only has a boot screen and one menu. Found in Sega Channel Menu Data\Sega Channel Menu Data\Shorrock.
- There's no audio.
- The 'Sonic' section of the intro doesn't exist yet - instead it fades directly into the 2nd section of the intro.

- The logo is positioned slightly lower.
- The backgrounds are different, having larger shapes.
- The SEGA letters cycle palettes from right to left.
- The prototype data cuts off at $1C5B0, the rest of the rom is padding.
