This is a sub-page of Proto:Redline Racer (Windows).

The demo version of Redline Racer is an almost-final build: 27 February 1998, compared to the final's 8 March 1998. There are no immediately apparent graphical or gameplay differences, but there are still a few other differences.

Differences#

  • The opening Ubi Soft and Criterion Studios cinematics are much simpler; they are simply images displaying their logos.
  • Being a demo, there is only one track: Tudor Hill. Only Easy and Medium are available, and there is no reverse option. There are also only two bikes: Fire Star X32 and Avanti. Time Trial and Network games are disabled. There are also only two teams: Redline and diaggi.
  • ForceCDTrack in menudata.ini is 2 rather than 0. This means that if you have the game CD inserted, that track will play in the menus. However, this has no effect on the actual game, unlike the full version.
  • As there is not meant to be a CD inserted, Tudor Hill's music is implemented in a demo.wav file. It is of lower quality and has a different mix.
  • No 3D sound support.
  • There is no sound on hovering over or clicking a button on the menus.

As with the final, ShowDevelopmentOptions in menudata.ini doesn't appear to do anything. Also, the "hidden" settings are still there, though MaxNumCompBikes has no effect. ShowDevelopmentOptions and MaxNumCompBikes are reset on quitting the demo.
