Kiosk Demo

This is a sub-page of Proto:Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky.

This needs some investigation. Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page. Specifically: Check for any interesting data differences, as the ROM is half the size of the full game. Graphics data appears to be identical, save for the changed ESRB screen.

A kiosk demo for Explorers of Sky was dumped online, and it has various differences. The demo is present in the final game, and can be enabled by modifying a "variation" flag in the ROM's script engine.

Demo Lockouts#

• The demo randomly selects the hero and partner duo between either Vulpix and Phanpy, or Riolu and Eevee.
• Only one dungeon, Star Cave, can be explored. Once the dungeon has been cleared, the demo will end.

Title Screen#

Apart from an additional "Demo" graphic, the title screen is identical to the final US/Australian version of the game. This asset still remains in the full game's files.

Warning Screen#

The demo includes a seizure warning. As with the "Demo" graphic, it can still be found in the full game's files.

ESRB Screen#

The demo includes an ESRB screen displaying the age rating and content warnings, this time in English and French. The US/Australian version of the full game instead carries over the English-only version of the ESRB graphic from Time and Darkness, but it remains unused.

Oddly, the European version replaced it with the English and French version from the kiosk demo, which is predictably still unused.
