This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
Notes: Everything needs to be done. Many things can be recycled from the July 20 prototype page, though. Note: There are two builds dated August 6th that are an hour apart; find any differences between the two.

General Differences#

Survivors#

Aug 6

Final

L4D2-Aug6 Ellis.png L4D2-Final Ellis.png
  • Ellis has a slightly different outfit - his clothes are not as dirty and his shirt has a different graphic. The graphic depicts a different vehicle maintenance company: the text "Stush's Automotive Service & Repair" circumscribes a skull with wrenches in the shape of crossbones.

Special Infected#

Jockey#

Final

The Jockey has a different animation set and can attack while riding people... take pictures to add here later

Campaign Differences#

Dead Center#

Decidedly the least complete campaign out of the ones available in this prototype, it is known simply as "Campaign 1".

Hotel#

  • The chapter is named "First Chapter".

Aug 6

Final

L4D2-Protos c2m1 highway.png L4D2-Final c1m1 hotel.png
  • It uses the icon from Dark Carnival's highway as a placeholder, and it's not possible to complete the level due to it lacking a saferoom.

Aug 6

Final

L4D2-Aug6 HotelRoof.jpg L4D2-Final HotelRoof.png
  • The level looks almost entirely different from the final game, having much wider hallways and windows, different textures, and different layouts for some of the rooms. Some areas such as the rooftop entirely lack textures at this point in development.
  • A few areas expand off of the main path much further than they do in the final game; this was most likely changed in order to make the level simpler for first-time players.

Streets#

  • The chapter is named "Second Chapter".

Aug 6

Final

L4D2-Protos c2m2 fairgrounds.png L4D2-Final c1m2 streets.png
  • It uses the icon from Dark Carnival's fairgrounds as a placeholder.

Aug 6

Final

Aug 6

Final

L4D2-Aug6WhittakerInside.jpg L4D2-RetailWhittakerInside.jpg
  • Whitaker's gun shop is pink with a red roof. A Humvee and a crane stick out from the top, with the crane being used to hoist the cola up.
    • The inside closely resembles the retail version, though all of the guns are on the wall and none are in the display cases.

Mall#

  • The chapter is named "Third Chapter".

Aug 6

Final

L4D2-Protos c2m3 coaster.png L4D2-Final c1m3 mall.png
  • It uses the icon from Dark Carnival's rollercoaster as a placeholder.

Atrium#

  • The chapter is named "Fourth Chapter".

Aug 6

Final

L4D2-Protos c2m4 concert.png L4D2-Final c1m4 atrium.png
  • It uses the icon from Dark Carnival's concert as a placeholder.

Aug 6

Final

L4D2 Aug6 RocketsCar.jpg L4D2-FinalGibbsCar.png
  • Jimmy Gibbs Jr's car is still not here. Instead, a yellow car with the text "Jimmy Rockets" on the side is in its place. A black square on the car as well as two boxes on the stand denote where the player should be to fuel it.
  • The map is not set up to properly end the level once the car is fully fueled and everyone is on board. As a result, it is impossible to actually use it to escape.

Dark Carnival#

  • Significantly more complete than Dead Center, Dark Carnival is still extremely unfinished.
  • There are only four chapters, as Barns did not exist at all at this point.

Highway#

Jul 20

Final

L4D2-Protos c2m1 highway.png L4D2-Final c2m1 highway.png

Fairground#

  • The level is called "Fair Grounds".

Coaster#

Aug 6

Final

L4D2-Protos c2m3 coaster.png L4D2-Final c2m3 coaster.png

Concert#

  • Internally referred to as map c2m4 instead of c2m5 as Barns was not present at all in this prototype.

Survivor Dialogue#

Almost all of the final survivor dialogue is in the files as of this build, but NPC dialogue has yet to be added. Like the previous build, all dialogue is uncompressed.

Some outtakes were left in:
