This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace. |
The May 1, 1999 prototype of Jazz Jackrabbit 3(D), also known by its filename Jazz224, was leaked onto MSN Messenger sometime in 2007, then reuploaded to a fan site in 2018, archives of which were rediscovered in 2026. This version has many differences, including vastly different levels, logo, HUD, and interface.
Unreal Engine 1#
The much more well-known October 2000 demo of Jazz Jackrabbit 3 uses Unreal Engine 1 version 400, whereas this build, as indicated by its name, uses version 224.
Title Screen#
Unlike the October 2000 demo, Jazz224 uses the level JJ3D.unr as its title screen.

Pause Menu#
Control configuration options are entirely nonfunctional in the May 1999 build, but work as intended in the October 2000 demo.
Known Bugs#
Attempting to launch a new Singe Player Game does nothing, as there is no level selector and the level loaded by default, JJ3D.unr, does not allow control of the character or the camera. Besides using commands, only selecting Single or Multi Player Battle permits loading into a level, the list of which includes:
- JMPForest - A forest level.
- JMPForest2 - Another forest level.
- JMPForest4 - Yet another forest level.
- JMPForts - A rather surreal floating fort and maze composed of brightly colored bricks and tiles.
- JMPSandbox - A box of sand, literally; the entire level is essentially a small desert map.
More levels are present in the files; however, these cannot be accessed through the new Battle game level selector.
Jumping out of floating levels, like JMPForts, causes a severe graphical smear across the screen.
