This is a sub-page of Proto:Guilty Gear -Strive-.
Dated August 2, 2019, this prototype build was still using the Guilty Gear Xrd branding and, due to being built off Dragon Ball FighterZ, still has a lot of leftovers from it. However, a good amount of the game was already starting to get finalized.
The game will crash when trying to load a match due to missing files related to the English dub. Changing the voice language to Japanese should solve that problem.

Early Name#
As said in the introduction of this article, this build (the build from November also has this file) still used the Xrd branding. Being Xrd -LAST- along with a kanji.

Debug Battle#
This option let's you start a quick Versus match with specified settings of your choosing. The battle settings are still structured to follow Dragon Ball FighterZ' battle mechanics, which are very broken in this build. The characters and stages are all referred to by their internal names.

- 1P: Lets you enable the characters on Player 1's team

RCode(Local)#
Character Select#
Looks radically different from the final version and still reuses a lot of Dragon Ball FighterZ assets as placeholders. You can also change which stage you fight on, but what stage you pick on the character select does NOT always correspond to what stage you actually get.
Versus Screen#
The basic idea of Strive's Versus Screen is already starting to take shape, but instead of one eagle flying across the sky, it's a white bird that flies forward, with two more white birds joining it later on. You can also hear the announcer voice say "Versus" near the end of the screen, although no character names get pronounced.
Battle Systems#
The battle system in this version is largely based off of Guilty Gear Xrd. Some notable difference between this version and launch Strive include, but are not limited to:
- Legacy gatlings
- Legacy air dash
- Legacy throws
- Jump cancelable normals
- Air untech
Air Dash#
This version uses the legacy air dash from previous games. The acceleration curve and sigil graphic from the release version are not included.
Auto Combo#
In this version, some characters have an auto combo that can be performed by repeatedly pressing an attack button. Doing so will automatically perform gatlings between normals of ascending strength. P > K > S > H
Cinematic Counter#
In this build of the game, some moves have Cinematic Counter hit effects that play a unique animation.
Roman Cancel#
The Roman Cancel system in this version differs from the launch version.
Red Roman Cancel#
RRC does not feature a slow down effect on hit and does not display the corresponding graphic.
Wall Break#
The wallbreak animation was different compared to the retail launch of the game.
Characters#
Sol Badguy#
Already uses his Strive design and is the only character with the Strive design to actually have sounds and voice clips.
2H#
Ky Kiske#
Already uses his Strive design, but is missing any sounds and voice clips.
Changed Particle Effects#

May#
Already uses her Strive design, but is missing any sounds and voice clips as well as any alternate palettes. Her victory animation is also still a broken leftover from Xrd.
Millia Rage#
Already uses her Strive design, but is missing any sounds and voice clips. Her default color palette right now seems to be a test palette that demonstrates what clothing variations can be done with palettes. She's also unable to load any of her hair graphics and is very prone to crashing.
Zato-1#
Already uses his Strive design, but is missing any sounds and voice clips. His hitboxes are also still visible and Eddie is still using his Xrd design, with a lot of animations unfinished (making him go into a T-pose instead).
Potemkin#
Already uses his Strive design, but is missing any sounds and voice clips.
41236H#
Scrapped move. Slams the ground and inflicts a crumple state
Hammerfall Sweep#
Scrapped move that takes the place of Hammerfall Brake. Perfoms a ground slam that launches on hit.
632146S#
In this version, Heavenly Potemkin Buster cannot be input with this motion—instead only being available on 236236S. In its place is a modified version of Giganter Kai which skips the initial half of the attack and goes straight to the followup attack.
Chipp Zanuff#
Already uses his Strive design, but is missing any sounds and voice clips. Winning a match as him softlocks the game due to his victory animation being broken.
Banki Messai#
In this build, Banki Messai is still based off of its Xrd version, including the old input (236236K)
Faust#
Already uses his Strive design, but is missing any sounds and voice clips.
Items#
Faust has a number of cut-content items which use placeholder graphics.
Flying Projectile Shooter
This item hovers in place above Faust and fires a spread of 3 projectiles at intervals until despawning.
Flying Bomb
This item flies across the top of the screen before exploding.
Teleports#
In this build, Faust has variants of his teleports which are input using half-circle motions. These have unique animations and behavior. These have charged versions where faust explodes.
Bone-crushing Excitement#
In this version, Faust does not have Bone-crushing Excitement. Instead, it is replaced with Stimulating Fists of Annihilation from Xrd.
Axl Low#
Already uses his Strive design, but is missing any sounds and voice clips.
Mising Moves#
Axl is missing the following moves:
- Sickle Storm
- One Vision
Venom#
A functional Xrd Venom, without any sounds or voice lines.
Slayer#
Crashes the game with a fatal error.
I-No#
Crashes the game with a fatal error.
Bedman#
Crashes the game with a fatal error.
Ramlethal Valentine#
Crashes the game with a fatal error.
Sin Kiske#
A functional Xrd Sin, without any sounds or voice lines.
j.214K#
Sin has a new move in this build, j.214K, which functions like an aerial version of Bull Bash from Xrd.
Elphelt Valentine#
Crashes the game with a fatal error.
Leo Whitefang#
A functional Xrd Leo, without any sounds or voice lines.
Johnny#
A functional Xrd Johnny, without any sounds or voice lines.
Jack-o Valentine#
A functional Xrd Jack-O, without any sounds or voice lines.
Jam Kuradoberi#
A functional Xrd Jam, complete with sounds and voice lines.
Choukyaku Hououshou#
Although most of the character is more or less identical to her Xrd version, this super has a new animation unique to this build of the game.
Missing Moves#
The following moves are missing in this build
- Bao Saishinshou
- Asanagi no Kokyuu
- Hochifu
Kum Haehyun#
A functional Xrd Kum, without any sounds or voice lines.
Raven#
A functional Xrd Raven, without any sounds or voice lines as well as a garish test palette.
Excitement#
In this build, Raven does not have his Excitement gauge. Instead, using Give It To Me Here twice—which consumes HP each time it is used—will grant him enhanced properties on his special moves.
Dizzy#
Crashes the game with a fatal error.
Baiken#
A functional Xrd Baiken, without any sounds or voice lines.
Answer#
A functional Xrd Answer, without any sounds and only one single (very long) voice line playing at the beginning of the match.
Nagoriyuki#
The first Strive newcomer to have been worked on, and work on him has only barely started: the only thing done is the first frame of his idle animation. None of his attacks and none of his other animations have been made yet, and hitting him puts him into a T-pose.
