This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace. |
An NTSC prototype of the NES Aladdin, dated August 23, 1994. The game would end up only releasing in PAL regions, likely due to the NES being at the end of its life by the time the game released.
General changes#
- As this is an NTSC prototype as opposed to the PAL final:
- The game runs up to 60 FPS as opposed to up to 50 FPS with the whole game playing faster (actual gameplay is 15 FPS compared to 12.5 FPS).
- Music and sound effects are faster/higher pitch.
- The prototype has various graphical bugs which are not present in the final.
- The prototype is more unstable and it can crash in random areas.
- Turning off music does not work in the prototype.
- Aladdin has a lot more health, matching the Game Boy version. For example, the first enemy in the game takes 5 hits (4 in difficult) to kill Aladdin in the final game. In the prototype however, the enemy takes 12 hits (6 in difficult) to kill Aladdin.
- Whenever Aladdin dies, his apple count resets to its default value (20 in practice, 15 in normal and 5 in difficult). In the final game, Aladdin's apple count carries over after he dies.
- Whenever enemies get hit in the final game, they briefly freeze and have invincibility frames. In the prototype, they do not freeze and they do not have invincibility frames.
- Aladdin can climb higher on ropes. If he grabs the rope from the top, he can climb slightly above the rope, something which is not possible in the final.
- Aladdin struggles to grab onto climbing frames in the prototype, often immediately dropping off of them after he grabs them.
Menus#
- The legal information and company logos can be skipped in the prototype. In the final game, they cannot be skipped when the game is first turned on (although they can be skipped if the player goes back to the opening after a game over or after beating the game).
