The JamPack Volume 11 Disc had a demo of Def Jam Fight For New York that is even a older build, being around 13 days older than the first alpha build.
Demo Notes#
- Internal files refer to the game as Def Jam Vendetta 2 (DJV2).
- The build was modified on 6/1/2004, June 1, 2004. This makes it predate the Alpha by 13 days.
- It runs at 60 FPS while the final game runs at a maximum of 50 FPS.
Demo Lockouts#
- You are only allowed to play 1 match in the Story Mode, which is the Sticky Fingaz boss fight. After beating Sticky Fingaz the game ends.
- In the Story Mode, a preset character named Hero will be playable instead of a custom character like in the final game.
- One option in the main menu is missing, which is "Unlock Rewards".
- Create-A-Fighter originally appeared in the menu, this was entirely removed in favor of you creating your fighter at the beginning of Story Mode.
- There are only 3 songs: Let's Get Dirty, Nuff Respect and Man Up.
Differences#
- Hero has a unique Blazin' yell in this build. His voice is not usable in the final game. However, his voice actor returns as Solo.
- When you knock out Sticky with a Blazin' move, the KO graphic will appear instantly.
- The cutscene after you beat Sticky has a different ending.
- Fighters retain their real names, such as Magic being named Busta Rhymes.
Mechanics#
- Countering still functions like in Vendetta, by pressing R1 as the opponent attacks.
- The camera is closer to the fighters.
- Momentum decreases faster when idle.
Movesets#
|
|
To do: |
- Hero's moveset comprises 4 fighting styles (Martial Arts, Kickboxing, Submissions and Streetfighting). This makes him the only Fight for NY character with 4 styles.
- Crow's moveset is nearly completely different.
- An unused submission hold exists in the files. Apparently used by DMX.
- Starks has Submissions instead of Kickboxing.
- Meca has Wrestling in addition to Kickboxing.

Unused Characters#
The Demo has 6 fighters in total: 5 to pick in Battle Mode, 1 exclusive to the story. In Battle Mode, Sticky, Redman, Method Man, Ludacris, and Busta Rhymes are playable.
Ghostface Killah#
Originally, Ghostface Killah was supposed to be playable as his voice file is still in the SPEECH.VIV. He even loads into the Foundation map using the debug, unfortunately, after finishing a fight, the game will softlock because his winpose isn't loaded with the map.
Demo Hero#
The Demo Hero was supposed to be playable in Battle Mode also, as he has his own portrait that's not used in the story.
Unused Character Models#
Some characters here have a very different look, or go entirely unused.
Crow with Jacket and Hat (Unused)#
Originally, Crow with his coat and hat was supposed to be playable (Crow2) but was presumably cut in the June 14th Alpha Build because of his coat having no physics and clipping issues with his legs.
Comp#
Comp originally sported a white T-shirt instead of his final gray shirt. The barrel of the gun on his shirt was also shorter.
