This is a sub-page of Proto:Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix.

This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace.

A prototype of Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix, dated August 12, 2003 (roughly over a month before the final US build) was released by Hidden Palace on September 18, 2021, as part of Project Deluge.

General Differences#

  • The game no longer has a rainbow border watermark.
  • The game's icon is different:

August 12

Final

Attract/Title#

  • The "Updating song list" message no longer appears.
  • The "warnings" screen was updated, fixing many of the typos from the earlier build. "Severe" is still misspelled as "server", though.

July 1

August 12

Final

  • All of the menus now have their proper background videos.
  • Challenge Mode now works.
  • The Xbox LIVE mode is referred to as simply "LIVE".

July 1

August 12

Final

Battle Mode#

  • The Battle Mode menus now resemble the final release, though with the old text from the earlier build.

August 12

Final

Workout Mode#

  • The grammar issue in the "Goal" setting string was fixed. The "Menu" setting still uses the old text, however.

Edit Mode#

  • The references to the PlayStation 2 have been removed from the game's strings.

Gameplay#

  • The songlist is mostly the same as the final US release, though the licenses Do That Thang, Ready Steady Go and Shiny Disco Balls, as well as the Konami originals Healing Vision and PARANOiA Rebirth, are absent.
  • Colors for EXTREME, GRADIUSIC CYBER, Healing Vision Angelic Mix, MGS2 mission R, ORION.78 civilization mix, PUT YOUR FAITH IN ME SATURDAY NIGHT MIX and Sana Molette Ne Ente BLT STYLE are already available by default.
  • When loading a song, its tags are now displayed.

Results Screen#

  • Though the results theme was updated to match the final product, the grading graphics are still the same as the earlier prototype.

Credits#

  • The credits section still does not have its unique video and background theme.
  • While the game's credits can be accessed, the text seems to be that of a very early version of the listing meant for the game's European release, showing some licensing deals that didn't make the cut. Additionally, due to the way the text is formatted, some of the line breaks are shown as Ω symbols in-game.

Song Differences#

This section will list changes compared to the July 1 prototype unless noted otherwise.

Common#

Other
Each of the songs have individual background animations now. All of them are different from the final release in some way shape or form; some even reference videos that don't exist either in this prototype or in the retail product, sometimes caused by a simple typo.

File: DDRultramix-bga812.zip (507 KB) (info)

Internal Data (.sif)
Like the earlier prototype, none of the songs have difficulty ratings; their slots are blank in each of the .sif files.

ABSOLUTE Cuff -N- Stuff It Mix
Charts
The charts were slightly updated, adding freeze arrows. They still don't match the charts in the final product, however.

BALLAD FOR YOU
Charts
The charts are completely different compared to the earlier prototype. They are, however, much closer to the unused charts in the final game, though with some differences.

Castles In The Sky
Charts

Unused Graphics#

By the time this build was compiled, the textures.kbr file, which contains earlier versions of the game's textures, already existed. In this build, early graphics for the Europe-exclusive songs SATURN 5 and EBENEEZER GOODE can be found in offsets 0x43000 and 0xE3000, respectively.
