This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

This is a sub-page of Proto:Amanda The Adventurer.

The demo version of Amanda the Adventurer was released on February 6th, 2023. This dates the game about two months before it's release, which still holds some differences compared to the final game. In this demo, the player goes through the first tape (being "In the Kitchen") to bake an apple pie. Doing so, a second VHS is shown where Monster Amanda's hand appears, therefore ending the demo.

Differences#

Careful, you'll lose an eye.

This page or section needs more images.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.
Specifically: Add some images to these

Environment and Object Differences#

A lot of objects are either missing or moved around between the demo and final versions.

  • The clocks and safes can only go one direction. This was changed in the final game because of how slow it would've been.
  • There are no arrows when interacting with either of the clocks available in the demo.
  • Blabbot and the doll can be found inside boxes. Some functionality can be restored to them by hacking the game's files.
  • The brick by the window in the demo version was moved to the couch in the final game. This was due to one of the endings having this object used.
  • The toolbox is under the table in the demo version. The final game has it over by the mouse trap
  • There are no symbols on any of the flower pots in the demo version.
  • The pie tin is cleaner in the demo version, where in the final has it rusty with a hole through it.
  • The safe containing a pause button a sheet of paper for the flower pots is on the floor in the demo version. Though the final game has this changed to where it's on top of some bins, it does do this on it's cardboard variant.
  • The lock on the wardrobe is darker in the demo version. It is also red, where the final game has it green.

In the Kitchen Differences#

The tape is mostly the same in the game, with some minor differences.

  • The text font is more basic compared to the final, where it is seen more bolded.
  • The fridge behind Amanda has some shape objects in the demo. In the final game, it shows a pause button to hint the player.
  • The end of the tape has the apple pie missing when answering Amanda's question of what the player's favorite pie.
  • At the end of the tape, Amanda will ask the player what is their favorite kind of pie. The final game asks this at the beginning of the tape.

Graphic Differences#

Most of these graphics and objects cannot be seen in-game, but opening the files has lots of earlier images that are found compared to the final game.

Description

Backbutton

An earlier version of the back button. The design is more sharper in the final game compared to the demo

BookCover9

There is extra details on the book in the demo version. It also had a different cover name, where translating shows it was originally "Practical Encyclopedia of Mechanics and Electricity Mrk. I" by "Henri Desarces". In final, it was changed to "Zappo the Talking Gerble Talks about the Global Housing Crisis" which references one of the tapes.

BookShelf1

A bunch of books with all sorts of numbers, words, and even decorations on them. This was all removed in the final game.

BookShelf5

The only books changed in this image are numbers three and six.

  • Book number three had just "Vol. III", where the final game changed it to "Eight Evenings at Evan's: The Glass Eye".
  • The sixth book had "Vincint Law", which was removed in the final.

BookShelf6

Strangely, every book in the demo version has a name on each cover. The final game however either changes them or removed it entirely on each one.

BookShelf7

Once again, a lot of book changes.

  • The fourth book in the final adds "Bone Replacement Surgery for Idiots".
  • The fifth book in the demo has its text removed. It's unknown what it reads, but one word can be seen read as "Lubonie".
  • After the first two blue books, there is a strange figure that can be seen in the demo version. This was removed in the final.
  • Next to the said book, the demo version has some sort of shape in the demo version. In the final, this was replaced with a bunch of blue square-like shapes.

Additional numbers, fonts, and letters are added.

T_Blabbot_Albedo

Blabbot can be found inside a box on the left side of the TV. Its texture file seems to be more mushed together in the final compared to the demo version. It also doesn't have caution sign in the demo, where this was later added in the final. (Note: Because of this, the filename in the final game adds "ENG" between the first two spaces)

T Clock Grandfather Albedo

The arrows are missing in the demo version, as there is no way to open the Grandfather Clock. Additional color fonts on the clock and above was also changed.

The demo version is missing the numbers and words for the alarm clock. Otherwise, other than the brightness in the second image, it's basically same as final.

T_Clock_Wall_Albedo

The demo version of the clock on the wall has no color to it. In the final, it was changed to blue.

T_Flower_Albedo

The purple flower had no dots on it in the demo version.

T_FlowerPot_Albedo

Other than there is no symbols on any of the pots, the graphic seems to have been changed during its design.

T_Mousetrap_Albedo

The mousetrap is yellow in the demo version, which was later changed to green in the final. It's possible this was due to it looking more like cheese, where the demo version also had circles present in the graphic.

The graphics for the storage chest, containing the scissors, is more basic in the demo compared to the final.

T_StorageChest_Wood_Albedo

A white particle on the top right of the graphic was added in demo. Strangly, the demo version has this referred to as "Wood" in the filename. This part of removed in the final

Demo Objects#

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: What do the other objects do in this demo? Are there any more changes or differences compared to the final?

Watch on YouTubeMost of the objects in the game's files are still functional in the demo.

  • The buttons on Blabbot make not sound when Blabbot has no batteries.
  • Even if the player were to give batteries to Blabbot, pressing the check mark button will play no sound effect.
  • If the player were to give Blabbot batteries, he will not boot up. But pushing it's buttons will play other sound effects from the object.
  • The coloring book goes unused in this game, but restoring it back into the game will load it in with temporary graphics. Interacting with it will show three purple squares.
  • The pocket watch, along with three sheets of paper, are found spawned on the desk. It can only be seen in a model viewer.
  • In a model viewer, there is a Secret Tape for the Oven (obtainable via Peach Pie in the final game). Clicking on it reveals the object name, along with a message next to it. "OvenTapeSecret (This'd be on the shelf not here)".

Placeholder Textures#

A set of placeholder graphics of book pages can be found in the game's files. There are also placeholder icons for the pause button and oven icons. Both the timer and heat icons can still be found in the final game.

Unused Video#

There is no way to pause the tape, thus making this video go unused. However, it does show an early version of the video compared to the final. This includes the fire being not present, the texture on the fridge is a placeholder, and the camera pulling out goes out much further to where a gray wall on the left can be seen visible. Text could also be found for it too, but it's the same as the final version.

The chest at the window was originally just a single audio clip. In the final game, not only it was split up into two parts, opening the lock was changed as well.
