E3 2011#
The E3 2011 trailer for the Wii U briefly showed a early version of Wii Fit U (the part showing Wii Fit U is here, you can also skip to 42:55)
- The 2 buttons on the bottom look different.
- The right button says "Next", in the final game it says "Progress" and has the "Next" button in the bottom right corner.
- The BMI meter next to the Mii is a tube shape, the final game uses a flat BMI meter with effects to make it look rounded.
- The BMI meter next to the Mii has different text for each weight category.
- The face/Mii picture next to the BMI number is missing.
- The blue arrow that shows the BMI level isn't rounded
- The "BMI Results" text at the top has a different background.
E3 2012#
The E3 2012 Wii Fit U prototypes looks almost complete except for some noticeable but minor differences.
First trailer#
Interestingly, this first E3 2012 trailer shows an earlier build of Wii Fit U than the next trailer.
- The fonts are thicker.
- The bottom text with instructions is different.
- In Trampoline and Core Luge, the Nintendo logo is used instead of the Wii Fit U logo.
- In Hose Down, the camera angle is different, the water meter on the right is missing for the TV view (but the GamePad view isn't shown), you get a lot less score than in the final game(?), and some of the sound effects seem to be missing/different.
- In Trampoline, the fence for the Mii audience is a yellow and white pattern with a Nintendo logo on the white, while the final game uses a fence made of net, the stats of current and peak height have different text postitioning/spacing, the timer has slightly different positioning, and the Center of Balance is only shown on the GamePad.
- The stats showing the current and peak height in Trampoline don't have a period after the text "ft", the final game does, so it looks like "ft."
Second trailer/Extended gameplay trailer#
This trailer seems to use a later build of Wii Fit U.
- In Trampoline, the text saying "Please put down the Wii U GamePad." at the top right during the intro is missing, and the Mii audience fence is now made of orange net, just like in the final game.
- When the photo is taken during the body test, the game doesn't say "Measuring" with the loading circle (or any other visual effects over there like the countdown or "Done"), the rotating animated man getting scanned by a laser is missing, there is a weird blank button at the top right while taking the photo, the game asks "Save this photo to the log?" instead of "Save photo?", the "Don't save" button is missing, the "Align face in the frame" message doesn't disappear (in the final game it disappears after the 3 second countdown), and all sound effects except for the shutter noise are missing.
- In Dessert Course, the timer only gives you 120 seconds (which is less than the final game, which gives 160 seconds in beginner mode), the amount of served dishes (which in this build is the amount of points) does not show the target goal, meaning this game was probably originally going to be unlimited (instead of reaching a target) with a different point system, and the game shows a + with the amount of score (like for example, "+20") whenever a dish is served, instead of just the pink music note in the final game.
Playable E3 demos#
Trampoline#
- There is now a period after the word "ft".
- There are now Wii Fit U logos.
Hose Down#
- The "Back" button shows a Wiimote "B" button instead of the circular "B" button of the Wii U GamePad and a arrow in the final game.
- Writing is different.
- The warning about stomping has a thinner font.
- The message in the top right saying "This activity uses the TV screen." is missing.
- The water meter is shown on the GamePad (if you look very closely), but not the TV.
- The TV camera angle has now been changed to the final one.
Core Luge#
- The text showing the speed in mph has a thicker font, a slightly different background, and different positioning/spacing.
- Some of the Wii Fit U logo branding is missing.
Wii Fit Meter data graph#
- The "Back" button shows a Wiimote "B" button instead of the circular "B" button of the Wii U Gamepad and a arrow in the final game.
- The background color of the graph data is white instead of colored.
- The option to see data within a certain period of time is missing.
- The height level says "Elev." instead of "Altitude".
- The METs levels and "Elev." levels to the sides of the graph are shown on the opposite sides of the final game.
- The buttons to change the day of the recorded data have a "+" and "-" icon shown, the final game doesn't include these icons.
- The lock icon is bigger.
- The Wii Fit Meter screen on the bottom right is missing.
- The background has a grid instead of plain white.
- The "View List" button is missing.
- The "a.m." and "p.m." is missing from the time. (Military time?)
- The "11:00" has the upwards arrow to the right instead of the left.
- The line showing the altitude doesn't have shading.
Wii Fit Meter#
- The footsteps are a silhouette, unlike the more detailed illustration in the final Fit Meter.
- The measurement of calories says "Cal" instead of "cal"
Post-E3#
December 5, 2012#
Nintendo Direct - December 5, 2012 has a short update about Wii Fit U, it looks nearly identical to the final version, except for some minor differences. For some reason, the Japanese trailer has stuff that wasn't shown in the American Nintendo Direct, and the American Nintendo Direct has stuff that wasn't shown in the Japanese trailer, so both videos will be listed.
