Early Level#

The full automap of the Avenger. You can see why it was scrapped, now.

The first mission initially took place on a Star Destroyer, as indicated by this screenshot. The level design was ultimately scrapped, as the mission was thought to be too hard to start off with.

Much of the geometry for the Star Destroyer was carried over to the Executor.

The original level was finally made publicly playable in Dark Forces Remaster as a bonus piece of content in the Vault, under the name "The Avenger" (AKA the Star Destroyer captained by Lorth Needa of "Apology accepted, Captain Needa" fame).

Early Level Name#

Well, it IS what rebellions are built on, after all.

A picture in the instruction manual lists the first mission as "Rebellion's Hope". The final game lists the first mission as "Secret Base".

Early HUD#

A screenshot found in the December 1994 issue of Computer Game Review shows an early HUD.

Compared to final the placement of the ammunition and health/shield counters are swapped. The secondary ammunition counter shows the number "00" which in the final translates to "--" since this weapon does not use a secondary ammunition type.
