Underwater Lake#

In-Game Comparison Shot A

In-Game Comparison Shot B

Ooh. It's an Egyptian Boat.
Aah. It's a slightly less Egyptian Boat.
Wow. It's a little bit o' boat.

The design of the boat in the Underwater Lake is different in both noticable and subtle ways: The upper roof has a different design that makes the overall boat look closer in design to Ra's Solar Barque, compared to in-game shots, where the roof itself is more non-descript in design. The subtle change comes in the design of the bow / stern (depending on direction), it's bowpost / stempost is narrower in design, there is far more separation between the two parts (whereas the in-game shot just uses some detail to show the difference, with less effect); The original bow / stern itself is far more slender and traditionally Egyptian in design.

The boat is also lit much better, but as this exact shot does not appear in game, it may have been lit differently for the magazine shot to improve print visibility.

Strange Beasts Exhibit#

Magazine Shot

In-Game Comparison Shot

The Triceratops in the Strange Beasts exhibit is placed noticably more left, when you compare its position to the floor markings. It is also placed on a plinth. The Griffin also just... Doesn't exist? Based on the magazine shot's angle, it should still be at least partially visible, but it isn't at all. Ignore the nest at the far right of the comparison shot, the magazine shot is taken at a different angle that doesn't exist in-game, which is why it isn't in shot.

Mysteries of the Deep Exhibit#

Magazine Shot

In-Game Comparison Shot

Oh! It's gone!

This is perhaps the most obvious change from the magazine shot(s) compared to in-game shot(s). There's an entire exhibit and plaque that is missing in Mysteries of the Deep in-game. It could have perhaps been a different location for the Song of the Sirens puzzle, or it could have been a puzzle that was cut entirely.

Subterranean World Exhibit#

Magazine Shot

In-Game Comparison Shot

Run! It's the Tar Ixupi!
Oh! It's cute by comparison!

Note that the Tar Ixupi in the Subterranean World looks noticably more scarier in the magazine shot. It's "wings" are lifted higher, the strands of tar are thinner and more spread out, it's face and teeth are more realisticly drawn & shaded, and overall it looks less cartoon-y in design; The more scary design of the Tar Ixupi only exists in the game's manual.
