Later 10th Anniversary Stream Build#

Watch on YouTubeThis was the second build to be shown in the 10th Anniversary livestream, described as the "Milestone 7 out of 9" build.

General Differences#

  • The title screen is closer to the final, despite having a basic outline and black background.
  • The loading screen was different, representing a rough mockup of the game's boxart except with real-life cars and different people in the background.
  • The top-right bars now represent health and respect.
  • The prompt text now displays in the center rather than on the right side.
  • Playa can no longer be named.
  • The basic map shape now matches that of the final.
  • Motion capture is now implemented in cutscenes, but object handling appears to haven't as the infamous watches person during The Streets of Stilwater cutscene holds it out of position. There also appears to be pop-in character models within each camera angle change.
    • Furthermore, effects haven't been implemented like gunfires or explosions at this point.
  • Mission completion results were not displayed on a black screen.
  • Playa did not turn around the camera at Brown Baggers.
  • The Ultor Dome wasn't named at this point of development.

Gameplay Differences#

  • The GPS now works in this build, except it's represented as a generic line rather than dots. That kind of GPS line would later be used in Saints Row (2022).
  • Location names are displayed on the right side of the HUD rather than the left.
  • The player cursor was smaller in comparison to earlier builds.
  • The Hammerhead was called the Beefeater, a name that was originally used by the Nordberg, too. The Rampage is spelled as "Rampage!", forming a basis for vehicle logo.
  • Windshield crashing psychics hasn't been implemented, whereas crashing into something in the front will cause Playa to be unrealistically launched from the side of the door.
  • Canonized was originally called "Jumped In".
  • The freeway signs said "Still Water", rather than other district names. It had the earlier name from around the E3 2005 builds, which is an obivous placeholder.
  • The countdown numbers were black rather than gold.
  • The "3, 2, 1, Go!" voice clip is different, not sounding very announcer-like.
  • When dying, there is no graphic that said "You're Smoked!"
  • There is a placeholder sign at the Pleasant View Stronghold that says "Mini Stronghold"

Vehicle Differences#

  • The Hammerhead was called the Beefeater, a name that was originally used by the Nordberg, too.
  • The Rampage is spelled as "Rampage!", forming a basis for vehicle logo.
  • The decals on the Rampage weren't as detailed.
  • The Cosmos was originally called the "Solarie" in this build. A car with a similar name, Solar would appear in Saints Row: The Third.

Delay#

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Find the source for this.....

On February 7, 2006, Saints Row was delayed all the way to August/September for polish.

"The extra time has allowed us to really polish the game to a glossy shine. Making open-world games is very challenging and that difficulty is compounded when we're talking about a next-generation look and feel. It's allowed us to really fine-tune and balance the game to make sure each element is as polished as can be."

The Developer Diary shows two near-final builds of the game:

  • The Minimap is glitched in some areas, meaning that it isn't fully implemented yet.
