Pac-Man VS. was shown at E3 2003 under the title Pac-Man for Nintendo GameCube. During the event, Shigeru Miyamoto personally demonstrated the game to Pac-Man creator Toru Iwatani, who liked the project. The game used the Game Boy Advance and a link cable to let one player control Pac-Man on the GBA screen, while the other players played as ghosts on the TV. It was part of Nintendo's effort to promote GameCube–GBA connectivity.
The gameplay is time-based, so when the timer runs out, the player with the highest score wins (likely), instead of reaching a selected score as in the final version.
The HUD displays only the numbers 1 to 4 for each player, rather than using the "P1" to "P4" format seen in the final version.

Final
The ghost models are different, appearing less chibi-like compared to the final version.
Mario's voice is absent at the start of the game; instead of his usual starting line, a whistle is heard, and the 'Fruit appear!' line is also not voiced by him.
The Original Pac-Man stage uses the Block Town theme from Pac-Mania, while the final version does not include any music on the stage.
