- The game's logo was originally very different, as seen in some early trailers.
- The earliest HUD used a darker shade of blue, a few elements were reused from Hot Pursuit 2 (such as the race leaderboard), and some elements used the font Impact. Also, the mini map was originally placed on the right side, and it showed the entire track map, as well as "Start" and "Finish" text at the start and finish lines, respectively. The mini map also showed during drag races. Seen in E3 2003 footage.
- The HUD would originally blur when using nitrous, as seen in early videos and screenshots.
- In slightly later screenshots, the HUD looks more like the PS2 demo, except the track map is now in dark blue.
- Eddie's GT-R was originally yellow, and had "Grifter" written on the side instead of "Eastsiders", implying Grifter was the early name for the Eastsiders.
- As seen in early screenshots, fire was originally used as turn signs behind the road.
- There were traffic cones near the finish line in 14th and Vine.
- There was stationary traffic near the bascule bridge in Market Street. It was cut due to possible pathing issues.
- Said bascule bridge also used to appear broken down.
- Smoke would show after crashing in a drag race.
- The road reflections were much brighter.
