This page details pre-release information and/or media for Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012).

Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2012 has had a troublesome development, where Criterion Games was too ambitious for the time they were inevitably given by Electronic Arts. Although not depicted in any known pre-release material, the game was first known as Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2, which was meant to be a sequel to the original Need for Speed: Most Wanted released in 2005.

Shortly after the release of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010), Criterion began development on the next Need for Speed title. They had very big plans. Unfortunately, Electronic Arts gave Criterion a deadline that caused the game to slowly look like the current version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2012 we know today.
