This is a sub-page of Prerelease:Marble Blast Gold (Windows, Mac OS, Xbox).

Marble Reaction was a very early prototype of Marble Blast. Screenshots can be found in the Torque Game Engine documentation. All screenshots and information was sourced from said documentation.

Early Screenshots#

MBG Marble Reaction Prerelease Gameplay.jpg

Marble Reaction originally started as a project named Marbles in January 2002. The screenshot shown on the right was likely taken in June 2002, as that was when the name of the project was changed to Marble Reaction. The game was originally a fork of Torque's FPS starter kit, with an added timer, marble and what appears to be a very early graphic for the PowerUp box. Nothing seen in this screenshot resembles anything in the final game.

The menu is also a simple GUI with buttons to launch into specific levels. It is unknown what level is shown in the early screenshots are.

Terrain and Checkpoints#

It seems like the developers wanted to make all the levels based on terrain. However, this was scrapped as the developers thought racing on plain surfaces (all the levels in the final game) was more fun than racing on terrain. The developers also intended to have checkpoints in the final game, but this also ended up being scrapped as the developers thought it did not end up adding to gameplay. Checkpoints would eventually be added to Marble Blast Ultra. The checkpoints take on a green/black look, and are much bigger than the checkpoints in Marble Blast Ultra.
