First revealed on May 16th, 2001, (or more specifically, e3 2001) Kameo: Elements of Power was Rare's take on the monster catching genre that was very popular at the time, it included THREE whole levels and 60 (yes sixty!) creatures to collect (debatable)

While early, the game still has a few interesting mechanics for its day. The game is built around collecting and utilizing creatures in a way that's very different to the final game. Kameo is controlled with the analog stick and the camera is moved with the C-Stick. Pressing the X, Y, or B buttons causes Kameo to pull out a focus from her bag and the player must aim it at a creature. Pressing 'A' will fire a bubble, if it connects with a creature you will catch the creature and participate in a small minigame to bind the creature. This entails moving the creature towards the center of a vortex and hitting the 'A' button. The creature will be moving unexpectedly in different directions, after the creature is caught and bound you will be taken to a status screen that details all of the creatures stats and data, as well as the creature's next evolution.

At e3 there were only 3 levels available to play.

The first level took place in a small woodland cove littered with baby creatures meant to be caught. The second area placed Kameo on a large mostly empty isle littered with geysers. The third level was a boss fight against an enemy named Hydros.
