In Volume 26 of Game Criticism, a Japanese gaming magazine, two early photos of Gunpey can be seen.

Prerelease

Final

‎ The first one is of the title screen, which is noticeably different to the final title screen. The prerelease has antlers on the sign, and it lacks the barrels and trademark symbol from the final. The buildings in the background are different too. "PLAY" was changed to "PLAYER" in the final, "OPTION" was changed to "RECORDS", and it seems the 2 Player option is on the menu regardless of if the WonderSwan link cable is connected or not. Finally, Bandai was added to the copyright info and the copyright date was changed from 1998 to 1999.

Prerelease

Final

‎ The second one is from Level 3 in the Story Mode. The portrait of Domingo in the top right was redrawn for the final, making his hat and his anger symbol much larger, but also giving him a weird fully open eye. The SP meter originally said "MAX", the border around the playfield had less gaps in between planks, and the rectangle around the points is much bigger than in the final.
