Rainy Woods#
Initially, the game was going to have even more similarities to the show it was inspired from - Twin Peaks. The town's name would've been Rainy Woods, and some of the characters would've had more striking resemblence to those from the show.
Announcement Trailer#
During Tokyo Game Show 2005, the first trailer of the game was shown, and the game was planned to be released during 2008 at the time. The trailer made a lot of discussions, but mainly due to being so similar to Twin Peaks to the point of being called a "ripoff"
Official Screenshots#
Several official screenshots from the game which were published in articles and the official website.

Early Character Profile Images#
Several renders of the main characters of Rainy Woods, likely from a page of the official site focusing on the main characters. The first two characters, Agent David Young Hanning and Sherrif George Woodman, had vasly different designs which are more similar to their Twin Peaks counterparts, Agent Dale Cooper and Sherrif Harry Truman. On the other hand, Emily and Thomas retained their designs all the way to the final game.

Censorships#
During the development of the game, there were several scenes which were deemed too graphic and almost made the published cancel the project by their own, and therefore had to be cancelled. It is unclear of thsoe censorships were made before or after the game was changed and rebranded.
The profiling scenes were originally meant to be shown in-game, in fool details, but were changed to blurry flashback images in the final game. There are still unused models which would've been used for those flashbacks left in the game files.
A major death scene was also going to be more graphic only to be toned down. It was surfaced with a work in progress version posted by.
Silent Cancellation#
During an interview in 2010, the game's creator, Swery65, said that the game's beta was being evaluated and that the project was frozen only a month after the announcement trailer at the Tokyo Game Show in 2007.
Swery65 tends to avoid talking about the cause, but according to a later interview with Jeff Kramer, the voice of the protagonist, this silent cancellation was due to copyright issues with the produces of Twin Peaks due to the large amount of visual similarities the game had in its first rendition.

Deadly Premonition#
Resumed Development#
The project was eventually picked up again in 2009, reevaluated and ultimetly approved. The game rechived a completlely new name and several changes made for certain characters, names and locations. Furthermore, a lot of voicelines had to be re-recorded to implement the updated names. Comparing the final game to the Rainy Woods trailer, it is likely that the plot and game themselves were not changed beyond the aesthetic differences.
Launch#
The project launched in 2010 as an Xbox360 exclusive. It later rechived PS3 port, but it was published only in Asia. The Asian port was named "Red Seeds Profile".
