This page details pre-release information and/or media for Castle Crashers.

TheBehemothsNextGame.png At Comic-Con 2005, The Behemoth unveiled The Behemoth's Next Game, quasi-officially referred to as Ye Olde Side Scroller1, a demo for a game which would then become Castle Crashers. You could get stuck spinning in the air in this version! How fun!

This version ran on the GameCube since the game was set for a GameCube release, but by 2006, the game, now officially referred to as Castle Crashers2, changed to an Xbox Live Arcade release, giving us the Castle Crashers we know and love!3

Differences#

  • The knights have a very different appearance in this build. They're more buff and less... "chibi" in this version. The knights in this build look a bit similar to the beefy knights in the final game. A comparison of the Green Knight between The Behemoth's Next Game and the final release.
  • You were supposed to be able to choose a role for your knight, which would give you another weapon tied to that role (e.g. choosing an archer role would give you a bow ALONG WITH your sword). You would be able to sheath your sword to use your role's weapon. Dan Paladin described this feature as a "DND kind of party that [you'd] evolve into".456
  • You could only play was four knights; the green, blue, red, and orange knight.7
