Extracting Guides#
Extracting Packages (.vpp)#
You will need Gibbed tools, specifically a version that ONLY extracts Saints Row 2 stuff. It works on all platforms.
- 1. Click on Gibbed.SaintsRow2.ExtractPackage.exe
- 2. Go the directory of the .vpp files you'll want to extract.
- 3. Remember to save it in an area you'll find the files in.
Extracting Strings#
Starting with this game, strings are now stored as le_strings, which are stored in the misc file and in the vint_docs_dlc file in the DLCs.. You will need any version of Thomas Jepp's Saints Row tools, which can be downloaded at Github here. This method works with the Windows and Xbox 360 versions.
- 1. Copy the desired
le_stringsfile to the same folder asThomasJepp.SaintsRow, containing the tools. - 2. Create a new notepad document with any title in mind (it's recommened to keep it simple), but only put in "ThomasJepp.SaintsRow.ExtractStrings.exe sr2 file name.le_strings" inside the text box itself, and save it in the same folder containing the tools and the
le_Stringsfile to be extracted. - 3. Rename the Notepad document by changing the format from
.txtto.bat. - 4. Click on the newly-reformatted document, and the strings will be extracted into a new Notepad folder.
Other Languages#
Czech, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean (identified as sk) and Chinese strings work differently and will appear as gibberish when opened in a program. You will need Phyton3, the extracted charlist .txt files for each language, (found in misc and in that same file due to different platforms and different coding) and the XML fixup for this to work.
NOTE: Make sure Phyton3 is set to the PATH format (which can be done via Environment Variables); newer versions do have that option upon installation.
- 1. Put the Phython script in the same folder, along with the
charlist.txtandstatic.xml/dlc.xmlof the desired identical languages. - 2. in the address bar of the folder, type in
cmd.exeto open up the Command Prompt of that folder. - 3. Cut-paste in the following script which needs to match the following desired text files in the same folder. For example is the Japanese language:
python sr2_xml_charlist.py dec static_jp.xml charlist_jp.txt
- 4. Press return and the text will be converted.
